Vandy Admissions Officer Video

There is a great video on www.vanderbilt.edu of an interview with Doug Christianson on admissions.....

One question I would have: At the end of the video, he discusses about students conveying to Vanderbilt through their applications that they have "done their homework" and "know what Vanderbilt is about".....How would one go about doing that, given that there is no supplement and no demonstrated interest tracked? I would not think that it is a good idea to stalk the admissions office....Any other ideas???

The interview.

How much weight do the alumni interviews actually hold? For some schools, they are just informational.....

It is a great video. I think some of doing your homework is a matter of avoiding the negatives. Don't write about a major they don't offer, talk about opportunities they don't have; if you indicate an interest in an area or school, make sure your ECs show that interest. Once you apply, you will be contacted to set up an interview. It's there that you could probably show your knowledge of the school and how you fit in. Vanderbilt says that its Alumni interviews are meaningful. Not the top criteria, but something that could probably make a difference if there was a question about you or your interest or fit.

Interviews are evaluative, not just informative

are you specifically referring to Vanderbilt?

Yes, specifically Vanderbilt. I know many schools where this is not the case. But as mhc48 said, they're definitely not the top criterion.

Here's a cite to the site for the Vanderbilt Alumini Interviewer Training Manual and the Report form they are supposed to submit afterwards:

Admissions: Vanderbilt University

where exactly is the video? I can't find it on the site. Can someone post a direct link? Thanks!
