Hey all, a few general questions pertaining to my college search/admissions process.

(If it helps, keep the University of Washington in mind when answering)

I’m taking a gap year to serve in AmeriCorps. If I was to take an AP course independently, that is teach myself, and get the score required to receive credit at my school, will I? I guess the issue I’m looking at is the fact that these AP scores will be received after my high school graduation.

Is there a limit to the amount of AP credit accepted at schools? I currently have 15 credits but would like to get 25.

If I’m on a double degree track, could I stay longer than four years at my school? A double degree at UW needs 225 total credits, just 180 for one degree (in four years). I think it would only take an additional quarter/semester beyond my four years to reach both degree requirements without substantially increasing my work load (credits per quarter).

AP exams are for high school students only. Once you graduate, you can not take anymore AP exams. Gap year or not!

This is dependent on each college. You need to contact them.

Most colleges let students take more than four years if needed.

AP Exams are specifically designed for high school students. Anyone outside of high school will have a distinct advantage, especially in the writing portion.

Feel free to call College Board. They will provide the same answer.

Anyone who can pay the fee is allowed to take the SAT. However, you should take it now while in high-school so you will have math and such still in your head.
