So I'm really interested in Vassar, and I'm trying to get a head start on applications. I want to present a really unusual "your space" submission, because so many people do the typical "Dear Vassar" video or collage. Here's some background info:

3.5 unweighted GPA (I know, not so good for Vassar which is why I need to really nail the other stuff.)
2100 SAT
32 ACT
Really rigorous classes, 10 APs, 2 dual enrollment classes
5 years of math, 6 years of Spanish, 4 years of French, 1 year of Chinese
A lot of extracurricular and leadership positions in almost all:
Student body VP, SGA committee head, founded club for Invisible Children Foundation, Spanish Honor Society President, Section Leader in professional choir, in a company at the community playhouse, PTA Co-chair, on our town council.
Really original essays and awesome recommendations.

I also have helped organize an annual event for my school which raises over $100,000 for pediatric cancer, and this year I'm the head of the committee. Also, three years ago I shaved my head for the event and raised $2000.

Anyway, I'm a devout vegan, and my idea is to make a video demonstrating how to make a vegan meal that's really fun and yummy, while also kind of subtly showing my unique personality and traits that you can't get off a paper application? Do you think this would be a good addition to my application?

holy crap 10 APs good GEEZUZ
that really helps the low GPA to take that many APs .i think it would be a great idea and really show a part of yourself you wouldnt otherwise be able to fit in the app.

although they say the yourspace has no effect on your app so dont put tooooooo much time in it

I agree with the previous poster, about the Your Space not counting all that much, but I still think your idea is very good. Here’s my two cents: make the meal, and when you arrange it on the plate, have some of the vegetables spell out VASSAR. But don’t say anything about it, just show it. So – that’s sort of a joke, right? (although I think it’s a good idea) But there is a point to it – the point is, I think Vassar cares a LOT a LOT a LOT about your enthusiasm about the place. So make sure your “Why I want to go to Vassar” essay (“personal statement” or whatever they call it) is VERY pointed. Say what Vassar has to offer that other schools might not offer (e.g., no core curriculum; multiple vocal groups (since you are a singer); ability to internship in New York City (given your interests, throw in something about what type of internships you might be interested in (even if you’re not interested in an internship)), etc.

Good luck!

^ Yep, that Dean of Admissions can really see the difference between a student enthusiastic about getting in and one that is only applying for a rebound from rejection at an Ivy League school.

Thanks! Yeah, I’m actually super busy, so I’m not really worrying that much about the YourSpace anymore, I’m just going to make a little video with pictures of me in plays and student government stuff…Yeah, my Why Vassar essay I think was really good, my English teacher said it made her want to go back to school, lol. And I’m writing my common app essay on being the only non-Hispanic in my Spanish class.
