Verification of Non-Filing Letter.....How you get it????

Ok, so I hope to God that I’m not the only one in this situation. Basically I got selected for verification, I am a dependent student, have never worked a day in my life, have nothing no car (yet), credit card nothing… nada. I just graduated from highschool and have been looking for job. I got nothing for 2015. Since I never filed 2015 taxes they’re asking me to give them a verification letter of non-filing. I called up the IRS and they told me they can’t verify anything on the phone and to go online. I go online and I have to make an account…but to make the account they gotta verify your identity using mortgage, auto insurance, and all this other stuff I don’t have. I told the finaid office, and today they told me to call the IRS again…but honestly after going online and recalling my my phone call with them… I don’t have anything to identify myself with. I’m a dependent student. And if I don’t get them the letter I won’t get my financial aid for this term, it’s on hold. Has anyone been through this before? Like seriously I can’t be the only person here going through this. If you’ve been in this situation before please let me know what you did.

Thanks ya’ll…

P.S the verification letter of non filing is a new 2017-2018 verification requirement.

Hi, I’m on the same boat. Please keep me updated.

Alright I was going to update anyway so here I am. Spread the word. If you have never filed an income tax return before, or have never worked and don’t have any of the things aforementioned in my initial post to make an online account. You must go to your local IRS office in order to obtain the verification letter of non-filing. Why? Because they can’t verify your identity especially through phone. Before you go to the IRS office make sure to: "

  1. Make an appointment (they literally turned people down for not making an appointment.) Call their number I believe if varies by state.
  2. Bring a photo ID; drivers license etc.
  3. Your social security. (I didn't have to bring the actual card, I know mine and they just told me to punch it on the computer system.)
  4. Make sure to tell them the reason (they'll ask you) and tell them you want it for 2015 or as this also applies to the future, whatever year you need it for.)
  5. They'll hand it to you right then and there no waiting no mailing, straightforward.

Now, if my school told me to do this ( I wouldn’t have shed as many tears I have over this). I made this decision out of frustration. Why are they giving out the wrong info.? I just seriously don’t know. YOU CANNOT ORDER A VERIFICATION OF NON-FILING OVER THE PHONE OR ONLINE UNLESS YOU HAVE FILED AN INCOME TAX FORM BEFORE… THE IRS WEBSITE MAKES THIS CLEAR. “Please note that, according to the IRS.gov website, the only transcript types available using the online tool “Get Transcript by Mail” or through the automated phone system, 800-908-9946, are Tax Return Transcripts and Tax Account Transcripts.” ~ IRS person…

=D>

P.S Yeah, they tell you to mail 4506T but ain’t nobody got time fo’ dat. Before you know it… you be payin late fees and yo finaid bailed out on you . Only take this route if you got ample time and aren’t in a hurry or the IRS office is hella far from where you are.

Cheers! =))

Could someone link to an imgur or something of a mock/fake filled out non-filer tax form? I’m confused as to how to even fill it out properly. Do I enter my name into the 1a section or the 3 section where it asks for current name and then the address? I have no clue, it’s so unclear.

I just realized that this is in a school specific forum, I assume I have to ask this in another forum.

@Hizeus Well it don’t matter mate, we all in this together. Here’s a sample 4506T form or atleast that’s what I think you meant…

Well have fun… (for non-filing all you do is check box 7 and that it.)

http://www.veri-tax.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/How-to-Complete-Form-4506T.pdf

Shouldn’t I leave label 6 blank since I’m not requesting a 1040 transcript? I’m sorry if I’m not getting it.

@Hizeus Yup mate, cause all you doin is check box 7, and that’s about it.

@Hizeus also make sure the address is correct, it should be listed at the very last page of the 4506t and it goes by state…

I filled out a 4506T for my son and faxed it to Kansas City IRS office about two weeks ago. He hasn’t received anything in return yet and there is no confirmation that they even received the fax. So so antiquated. Terrible system.

Good luck to all.

same here. could not get it online b/c he does not have a bank account or credit card. called the 800 number numerous times and always got “We are experiencing technical difficulties, please call again later.” apparently they have been experiencing technical difficulties for two weeks. so i faxed it, and have heard nothing.

great system. yup. guess i will try the IRS office.

Am I suppose to mail the non-filer form to Kansas City no matter what state I live in? I live in Georgia and for some reason the Georgia fax number doesn’t seem to work. The directions aren’t very clear as to what state fax number I need to send the form to.

use Kansas City – 855-821-0094

@STEM2017 Sorry to hear about that mate, in general it takes a while for mailed things to get processed. Like I said in my follow up post, if you don’t need the letter in a hurry like in my situation, then you can wait it out. If its been awhile and you don’t get anything, I suggest going to the IRS office if its not too far, or wait it out. Cheers!

@Wien2NC I feel you bro. Actually, if you have never filed an income tax form before then your social security will let off a technical difficulty message and then hang up, I too called about 8 times in the course of a week. It’s not really a technical difficulty, its they can’t verify your identity. I spoke to an actual IRS representative and they said the same thing. I suggest either go the actual IRS office (follow instructions on follow up post) or wait out that fax if you aren’t in a hurry. Goodluck mate, cheers!

thank you @HerrotMaster12 for the suggestions on this thread. we went to the IRS office and got the letters in about an hour. the student has to go and you need driver’s license or other ID, know your SSN, and have the addresses for the financial aid offices of the schools you want the letters for. I recommend everyone who needs this student tax non-filer letter, just go to the nearest IRS office and get it done ASAP.

Got the non-filing form from the IRS today!

did you go into an office or send it in the mail?

Got it in the mail. Hard copy.

Can I go directly to the nearest IRS office and hand them a filled out non-filer form? My specific college told me to hand it in physically since faxing it apparently doesn’t work.
