So my college is having me verify my FAFSA, and I need to include a verification of nonfiling for the 2016 tax year. However, whenever I go to ‘Get Transcript’ on the IRS website, nothing works. When I try to request a transcript off the website it doesn’t let me because I’ve never filed taxes, and when I try to print out a form online to be sent through mail to get the transcript, I have to enter my ssn, birthday, and address, and then it says my request cannot be completed. I tried calling multiple numbers at the IRS but as soon as they ask for my ssn and I enter it it says that they are experiencing ‘technical difficulties’ and hang up on me. I printed out the form needed, 4506-t, but I’m concerned because everytime I enter my ssn the IRS seems to not be able to function. I have no idea why? Maybe it’s because I haven’t filed taxes before? Also, sending the form supposedly takes up to a month to get a response (even though the website says 5-10 days). I need this verification by June 15th or I lose my aid and can’t go to college and I’m kind of panicking. If anyone has any advice it would be very much appreciated!
There may be a chance that you can obtain the transcript at your local IRS office. Go there.
