So I didn’t study , and I got 125 . Is there any hope? I know other people who didn’t study and got 160. Should I stay in sat format test or try the act test instead ?
A 125 is a 1250 on a SAT. There is still hope, since as you probably saw, the questions asked are probably different from what you usually see. Most people don’t do that well without studying, regardless of what you may see on CC, because CC’ers don’t represent all high schoolers that well. If you still want to give the SAT a chance, study, give a practice test, and see what happens. Your score should rise. If it doesn’t, switch.
On the other hand, if you don’t think that studying will help, you might want to start studying for the ACT. Try review books for the ACT, give a practice test, and see what happens.
i got a 143 sophmore year its all gonna be okay lol
(eventually got a 2060 sat)
It depends on what grade you are in. If you’re a freshman it is completely fine because you might not be a good test taker. The only problem would be getting this score as a junior. If I were you look at your score report online. Did you get the email from College Board? I didn’t do as well as I hoped for on the writing section (51 as a freshman), but that is because of my district’s curriculum. I’ve had some terrible English teachers in the past who just didn’t care or make any sense. Things like grammar and sentence structure were never taught to me in class. I have to self study the material on my own. Just find your strengths and weaknesses. The online report actually lets you see the exact questions you missed and why. It also divides your questions into subsections so that you can study with ease. This would be a great starting point. I don’t think acing the PSAT/SAT is a matter of smarts, but knowing its format and question types. I got a 72 on crit. reading and a 67 on math. This tells me that I don’t need to focus on studying these sections as much, but getting comfortable with the more advanced questions. If you are a freshman like me there is SO much time. You can also go to Khan Academy, for further help. Prep for the new SAT opens up in May 2015. You don’t have to study outright for the PSAT either. Take time to read for your own pleasure. This alone would boost your grade up. I personally have an easier time taking the ACT, so try taking that once and see how it works out. The next thing I have to say is just relax. Your test score is just a number and only calculates aptitude for taking tests on three things; writing, math, and critical reading- nothing else. This score doesn’t show the skills you have or how successful you will be. It’s kind of a moot point to base the value of your accomplishments on one test. That’s why colleges value your personal growth rather than test scores and rank. Not to say those aren’t important. But as long as you persevere it’s completely fine.
But the thing is Im a junior , will there even be a enough time ?
It depends on the college you want to go to, but I would buy the official SAT prep book and maybe ACT prep. Do a little research, but don’t fall into the test prep company money trap. Study through a book or two. If you do the other things I mentioned above you’ll have enough time. Have you taken the ACT before? You might even do better on it if you’re strong in math. As long as you have a good gpa and won’t slack off (too much) colleges won’t hold it against you for the most part. The grade you get on the actual SAT will be a lot higher than a 1250.
Read the pinned topics and practice the right way. You can massively boost your score but it will take a lot of effort. The ACT is another option but it’s unlikely you’ll do a LOT better on it without preparation.
