Villanova EA Class of 2022

@lindsgal
Check out my post in the other Villanova EA thread (post #140). I called Villanova and they gave me some info. My DD didn’t have any mention of Honors on her portal either.

@doingourbest does this mean if we didn’t have anything we are being considered for Honors? I didn’t have anything

To better gauge interest and increase yield, some schools will defer EA applicants who on their face seem like strong candidates for admission. That and Villanova admitted ED for first time this year which probably made EA and RD much more selective. I am certainly going to encourage my S, who was deferred, to take a fresh look at his list of schools and perhaps consider other options that he may have initially overlooked.

@aleg your guess is as good as mine :slight_smile:
The woman I spoke to would say no more than Honors invitations haven’t been issued yet. She didn’t give me any more info than that.
Good luck!

anyone get merit money from Villanova??? If so how much? TY

D received her invitation to the honors program in the mail on 12/26. Would like to hear more about others experience in the program.

@momreasearcher My son is in honors at Villanova. He is a freshman, but what he said is that if you want an honors major, you have to take 10 honors classes plus a senior thesis. For the minor, you just need 5 honors courses and those can count toward core as well. It is difficult (he said) to get the major if you are a science or engineering major because there is so much mandatory course work already, plus the workload. He is Astro double major with math and he will likely only minor with honors. He is in an honors cohort and dorm, which he does like.

@momreasearcher
Thanks for the honors info :slight_smile:
Can you give us some more info about the honors dorms? We heard that there was an issue with “forced triples” at Villanova (three kids being put into a dorm that was initially intended for only two kids). Are there any forced triples for freshmen in the honors dorm?

@DoingOurBest Caughlin is the freshmen honors dorm. It has 2 floors of women, one of men (this year, assume this is consistent but honestly do not know). My son is in a forced triple. It is not as horrible as it seems, honestly…probably because the boys tend to have less “stuff”. :wink: The floors are that laminate tile and they do have air conditioning which is nice. My son had the option to move out into a double in a different dorm and did not take it. He loves the dorm and his roommates. Sophomore year the honors dorm is Corr, it is on main campus and he just received a notification saying they are adding air conditioning there this summer. They are single rooms, have carpet. I think he is going to live there next year. He was debating, but due to late night observations labs for his major, it is probably the best.

Oh I should add…my son and his roommates all waited to throw a deposit down until the last minute, so that probably contributed to the triple. :wink:

@phxcactus
Thank you for all the great info!

What are the pros of being in the Honors college for Engineering majors? Sounds like a lot more work in an already intense career path.

Update: I just got a physical letter in the mail saying I was accepted to Honors! So I guess that not having it mentioned in my portal didn’t mean anything.

CONGRATS!! Do you mind if you can share your stats? Thanks and congrats

I also just got a letter in an acceptance letter in the mail for the Honors program. I didn’t have anything in my portal either. 32 ACT, 1380 SAT, 4.2 GPA

was accepted to honors biology with a 33 ACT, 1530 SAT, and 4.0 uw

Did anyone else apply for the St. Augustine scholarship? I can’t find much at all from past years on the forum… I was wondering if anyone had any idea as to when Early Action applicants for this scholarship will hear back. Thanks!

my D did apply. She just sent in her essay. I have no knowledge on when we will find out.

So, I think they changed the scholarship program a bit and that is why you cannot find info from last year. My son was awarded the “Villanova Scholarship” last year and I don’t even see it as an option for this year. It seems like the St. Augustine replaced it somewhat, although he was awarded on merit with no additional essays needed. I think the old Villanova Scholarships were between $5k-$15K. The released the Villanova Scholarship last year in mid-Jan. Hope that helps some.

I got Honors College as well as a Saint Augustine invitation to apply with a 35 ACT, 4.0 UW GPA
