Villanova Ranking

i dont agree with that i think bc is fine and a much better school than fordham, from what i have heard fordham is kind of a joke

I'm not one to get into these types of threads but Fordham is definitely not a joke. I'm not going to quibble about US News Rankings but Villanova is a great school, many friends there, just not sure it would be on par with the likes of Lehigh. BC is a great school as well but its also really hot right now. Just a cycle of popularity. Fordham was my brother's safety school but he wound up loving it and chose it over some top 30 schools. I think you will get a very similar education at all three of the schools on this thread, just depends what you want.

U of R is 41, Penn St is like 45, Syracuse 53, id say a little behind Syracuse

i think nova should be slightly ahead of penn state even though i love psu

because villanova is not ranked by usnews, it's hard to compare it with other schools.
I think villanova focuses on biz (35%-Collegebard), so let's talk about its business school with that of other college. Do u think it's a good business school ? Businessweek ranks it #13.

If I had to guess where Villanova would be ranked based on the US News formula I would think it would be somewhere between 50 and 60. Private schools with similar profiles (Tulane, Miami-FL, and George Washington) seem to be in that range.

You Villanova people are fooling yourself. There is no way it is even in the same ballpark as Lehigh. Villanova is a good school, but not that good.

actually, I'm going to have to go out on a limb and say that those of you who are overlooking the high caliber that villanova has become are jsut bitter from being reject...because of the recent selectivity of it. Certain schools, such as the business school, is in fact harder to get in to than Lehigh. There is no denying that Villanova, as of right now, is ranked very highly and is on the rise. I have talked to many reputable sources that can only say great things about the school. i even know of a Cornell professor who spoke very highly of villanova, the education and teaching quality, and the career services is tops. So for those of you who continue to try and degrade the school, but their actions speak far louder than any of your opinions on this board

Lehigh is not known as a Business school. Lehigh is known as an Engineering school. Villanova is a good school, not a great school.

u.s. news has ranked nova undergrad engineering, for schools that mainly only offer masters, #10 in the country, right behind the air force academy, bucknell, naval academy, military academy, cooper union, harvey mudd, rose hulman, etc.

it is also ranked in the top 10 for specialty programs for civil engineering and mechanical engineering.

I happen to agree with erzepnicki.....unless you have (or have a child who) attended, it's pretty difficult to knock Villanova. Villanova IS on the rise, there are new buildings everywhere and the university is attracting great professors....that IS part of their mission. There is something to be said about the "Villanova experience." I have personally witnessed this transformation with my own eyes...and at least at my house, it is for real. By the way, Villanova has a pretty awesome Engineering Program and was known for that long before the Business school rose in the rankings. Their Nursing program is getting attention as well. I can tell you that recruiters think very highly of Villanova's business graduates.

thanks twokidsatvu. And to whom ever said Lehigh wasn't known for it's business school and it is mainly engineering, who cares. The fact is you apply to Lehigh regardless of intended school/major, thus making the acceptance rate the same for everyone. At Villanova, not only is the school as a whole highly selective and prestigious, it's specific schools fare better--hence the acceptance rate for VSB being so low and the school being much higher than Lehigh in the business rankings. I am in no way trying to degrade Lehigh, I actually really enjoyed it there, but Villanova I think is just as good now, and will only get better in 4 years when I'm ready to graduate. This will make my experience and life after college so much better, which is why I chose Nova over Lehigh.

I graduated from Villanova, and even I would say that Lehigh is the better school. Just look at the profiles of the two schools in terms of admissions.

Lehigh: 28% accepted, 1315 average SAT.
Villanova: 39 % accepted, 1295 average SAT.

Furthermore, Lehigh has a little fewer than 5,000 undergrads while Villanova has over 7,000. And smaller schools are usually better because they offer smaller classes and more teacher/student interaction. The professors at both schools are probably equal because 'Nova and Lehigh both hire primarily from Ivy League schools and other elite grad schools like Michigan, Stanford and Berkeley. But another plus for Lehigh is that I believe their endowment is much larger than Villanova's, and that does make a difference in terms of facilities and being able to attract excellent students with large scholarship offers.

I still think Villanova is an excellent school, but I would put it on par with schools like Franklin & Marshall, and Lafayette rather than Lehigh.

Actually, I don't know when you graduated from Villanova but the average SAT for the last year was 1360-1440. Again, nothing wrong with Lehigh...but I'm just trying to give respect where it is deserved. The acceptance rate was also 28%, so that is even with Lehigh. Honestly, being a prospective student and visiting both schools numerous times, I felt like I was a definite in at Lehigh and was nervous about not getting in at Villanova. They know they are on the rise and can take much better students for the future. Lehigh seems to be loosing a bit of it's respect, IMO. I know it is still an excellent institution, but I fell as if it is clinging to its previous reputation as an egineering school that it is not focusing on the future, as 'Nova is. Besides - even if they are very similar, Villanova clearly has a better reputation career services wise, which makes it that much better. What good is an education if you can't use it at the best possible job upon graduation? Villanova all the way.

I graduated from Villanova in the Spring of 2007, and I found the average SAT and acceptance rate numbers on Collegeboard.com. Where did you find your numbers?

Villanova's open house in September. I'm sure you can find the numbers on their website. Those numbers may be the business school stats, I don't remember if it was overall or just VSB.

i find it impossible for it start at 1360....thats like top 15 school material...

except i found it on the website. It is the business school, but regardless...villanova. Believe it. Villanova School of Business: Undergraduate Programs

Can anyone share thoughts on Villanova's nursing school ? My D is very interetsed but also looking at U Pitt and U Penn.

lol i ran into the same SAT numbers problem. VU's website says 1360-1450 for ACCEPTED students, and considering a lot of ivy-caliber students use Nova as some what of a safety, the number is inflated. College-board is more accurate because those are the actual freshman-class numbers
