Villanova vs. Clemson

these two are very high on my priority list.

i know villanova has higher prestige, but i've heard clemson has a better social scene. is villanova boring?

also, if you could, compare these schools in school spirit, campus, etc..

thank you!!

bump...anyone? please? lol...

I think the defining difference between these schools has to do with the most obvious factor: location (and thus culture).

While both (esp Clemson) are somewhat national schools, the most common Villanova kid is upper middle class from Phila or NY suburbs, or from somewhere in the Northeast.

Clemson, which also draws from across the country, is predominantly Southern in population and feel, which is very different from most Northeast schools. As an example, my friend's NJ son lasted just a semester at USouthCarolina-Columbia....was miserable, just couldn't deal with the whole Southern thing, transferred and is very happy at a school in Florida that is populated by kids from the Northeast. this is of course just one person, but I think the cultural differences between these two school will be huge.

thank you... i am from an upper-middle class town in the northeast... perhaps villanova would be a better match for me.

how do the two social scenes compare?

Villanova has the nickname Villa-no-fun...but I don't know if I think that's true, since I know they get pretty rowdy during basketball season. :) Villanova is Catholic and has no frats/srats, and I imagine that makes for a slightly tamer social life. I don't know much about Clemson.

PS. As a northerner relocated to central Virginia, I really like the Southern flavor of my college--I think it's part of its charm, and it really only means that people dress and act a bit more formally and it always takes a little longer to get your food in a restaurant since everything goes a bit slower. ;)

Villanova might have a greater population of kids just like you, but maybe college is a good time to experience different types of people and a different culture. Whether you would be happy depends on how much you want to stretch yourself. A place like Emory might be a good compromise- southern school with many northerners.

Dancingbear, what do YOU mean by prestige as it relates to Villanova and Clemson. And I would beg to differ with the opinion that both of these places are "national" universities. If your source is USNRW, well then, that explains it. That a school's academic assets are widely not known is no comment on its quality, however.

Not so.

Yeah, Nova has frats. It's a really good school, great rep. here. I dont think it's that bad socially, but i wouldnt know. BBall season its insane here. I would def. go there, too bad it's catholic.
