I haven’t found a discussion w a similar situation to my own so I thought I’d share. I am a violist who’s been playing for 5 years, am collaborating w the CMPR’s college-level orchestra, and am currently the only pre-college student to an UD and MD professor at the CMPR. I have attended both NEC’s and MSM’s summer programs and have participated in a local internship program called Experencia Sinfonica. I have been a soloist twice and have studied pieces like the Stamitz concerto, Casadesus concerto, Glinka Sonata, Weber Andante e rondo ungarense, etc.
I have applied to the CMPR, Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), Mannes School of Music(Mann), Manhattan School of Music(MSM), Eastman School of Music (Eas), and New England Conservatory (NEC).
I’ve passed CIM’s and MSM’s prescreenings and am waiting on NEC’s response. Eas and Mann do not require prescreening recordings for the viola.
I was also wondering if anybody might have any idea what my chances are w passing the NEC prescreening?
