Hey there. I'm considering moving to Virginia and becoming a resident - not only for school, but to be closer to family. In UVa's guaranteed transfer agreement, it states that you cannot have failed any classes within the VCC system. My grades are straight A's and I'm in Honors... now. In my first semester of school at a FL community college, I got an A, a C and 2 F's (only because I did not apply myself). Even though this was outside of the VCCS, does this still disqualify me from transfer under the GTA?

Call/email UVA. When it comes to residency/articulation agreement questions, requirements are very state dependent. You really have 2 questions:

Your Fs from a non-VA CC.

Your changing residency to VA.

Thanks. I know that changing my residency isn’t an issue as long as I earn 45 or more credits from a VCC. I’m not moving soley for in-state status. I want to be closer to my family and in a place with better weather. My son’d be going to school there, and I’d be working there, paying taxes, and getting a VA DL. The only issues really are those stupid Fs and the fact that I have 18 AA credits already. I don’t mind doing some self-pay classes as long as they’ll count towards the 45 cred. requirement. I was planning on calling on Monday, but I’m just impatient. “MUST KNOW ALL RELEVANT INFORMATION WITHIN 2 SECONDS OF QUESTION ARISING.”

I brought up residency because many students who want to change to another state, no matter what the motivation, often don’t recognize that there are strict requirements that must be fulfilled. Looks like you’ve done your homework, that’s good.

Good luck with your call tomorrow!
