Just out of state last week but haven’t heard anyone instate yet. Are you instate Kaitlinh?
My DD was accepted from the waitlist for CMDA on 5/4 just after 5pm. She accepted today. VT was her first choice, but after getting waitlisted she’d grown happy with her second choice, JMU. She struggled making this decision, but decided VT’s CMDA program was what she really wanted. We’ll have to figure out if it’s possible to get a refund of the admission fee from JMU. She’s excited!
Stats:
State: Virginia
Unweighted GPA: 4.0
Weighted GPA: School does not report this
SAT/ACT: Did not submit
Extracurriculars:
- HS Softball
- Coaching a local league
- Started a business
My son also got pulled from the waitlist on 5/4 OOS for Mechanical Engineering - we were shocked. With the number of people waitlisted this year, we thought his stats just didn’t measure up, and he would not be pulled. He must have impressed with his essays or something!
So he fully committed to Mississippi State where he got a really nice merit scholarship, and in the end had a lot of the same qualities he loved about VT. VT was his first choice, but will end up being a significant cost difference with no merit aid. I think he is going to decline, so hopefully opening another spot for someone who is still waiting.
From GA
GPA: 3.7 W, 3.5 UW
ACT: 27 (math 29, science 28)
Multi-sport athlete - decided not to pursue college athletics
Is Virginia Tech need-aware for waitlist?
VT has a need-blind admissions policy, so I don’t think it would be likely that they would change that approach for wait-list pulls.
I’m in state engineering. Does anyone know any tips to get off the waitlist?
Are they still going to accept engineering in state or are they done?
Congrats! My son is a freshman CMDA major and had a great year. I definitely think it’s a stronger choice than JMU for the data science field. S also applied JMU but felt like his only option that kind of fit his goals there was a straight statistics major, possibly combining with a CS minor, essentially creating CMDA on his own. So much better to be part of a well-thought out program at VT.

Heard about dome instate pulls . Surprisingly haven’t heard about any instate waitlist pull so gif for pamplin business
Do you have an idea when in state pamplin pulls would come out since they already did engineering and arts/sciences. I would assume architecture/pamplin is next
@vs_2004- Hopefully… yes
Looking at the Naviance data for my daughter’s Northern Virginia HS, one thing is clear: VT has become MUCH more selective in the past 4 years:
Applied Accepted Enrolled Acceptance Rate
2019: 101 91 38 90%
2020: 158 58 28 38%
2021: 214 60 22 28%
2022: 226 36 6 16%
The acceptance rate will rise somewhat for 2022 as more waitlisted kids get accepted.
I’m guessing switching to the Common App is part of this selectivity story, but I wonder if there’s more going on. It’s odd to see more kids applying, but fewer kids getting accepted, and even fewer enrolling. My daughter was the 6th to enroll from her school.
I’m glad to hear your son is enjoying the CMDA program!
We had the exact same thought process. She would have been a stats major at JMU, with a data science minor. VT was a better fit for her goals. The state is allocating more money to JMU for data science (and nursing), but it hasn’t resulted in a full-fledged data science degree yet.
Do we know they have done arts and human science yet? We’ve heard nothing
Well they pulled off a good chunk of students for arts/sciences on Wednesday. (A lot of my friends got in off the waitlist Wednesday for different sciences)
My son OOS got off wait list on May 4th for Criminology Major.
Happy Mother’s Day and another week of hope for those who are still waiting . Good luck !
Happy Mother’s Day to you, too! Best wishes.
Happy Mother’s Day @Hopefaith14. Hoping for good news for you soon!
