Virginia Tech Chemical Engineering

How hard is it to get into VT’s school of engineering as a minority (not east Asian) female who wants to major in chemical engineering? Stats and whether you got in or not would be really helpful and informative! Also how is the program? I know it is very challenging, but is it enjoyable? Thanks

Also how helpful is applying early decision - does it increase your chance of getting in significantly?

Admission to VaTech engineering is very tough for everyone. In recent years no one has been admitted from the wait-list.

My son was accepted last year at regular admission. He is half Indian. He had a 30 ACT and 3.70 GPA (this could have been higher or lower) because I do not remember if it is weighted or unweighted. He was an OOS applicant. He was offered. $14,000 merit aid. He did not attend VT. Hope this helps.

@PERplexD‌ What classes did he take- APs, Honors, etc…

Mostly APs. Physics, chem, statistics, calculus, etc. I think he took honors English instead of AP. I really do not remember all of his classes.
He ended up at Penn State.

@PERplexD‌ Thanks, I really appreciate your feedback! I’ve started to get application anxiety lol. I’ve heard that Tech doesn’t even consider people who haven’t taken AP Physics for their engineering program. I’m a junior and am not currently taking or going to take AP Physics, but I’m taking AP Chem and for chemical engineering I think that’s more beneficial.

@PERplexD. Is he going to major in ChE at PSU? Let me know if you have any question as I’ve graduated from PSU with ChE.
