So I’m not exactly eligible for US Citizenship and don’t have a visa or a passport, how would I go about filling out that section of the CSS Profile? How should I explain it in the special circumstances section?
Not sure what you mean. International students complete the Profile. You use the info from your country. You do not have to be a U.S. citizen to complete the Profile.
If you want to study here, you WILL need a passport from your country. Do you have that?
And if accepted, you will need to apply for a student visa to study here. When you do that, you will also need to complete a certification of finances showing that you have sufficient funds (which can include awarded financial aid from your college and approved loans) to cover all of your coats to go to college here.
my passport is expired and so is my visa and renewing them would mean I have to miss my chance to go to college right after high school which wouldn’t be very smart since i would miss out in getting the help i need
You cannot enter this country from another country…without a current, unexpired passport from your country.
If you plan to go to college here, you will need that passport. Period.
Are you undocumented at the present time?
Then you need to communicate directly with the admissions and financial aid offices, and ask how they want you to handle your application.
Where are you living now? In the U.S? What kind of visa did you have that expired?
Maybe I could’ve been a bit clearer, I came into the US before my documentation expired and now I am undocumented . I’m already in this country.
so does that mean there is still a way for me to go to college without having any documentation? how would I mention this in the css profile?
What state do you live in?
What is your GPA/SAT/ACT?
I live in Texas and my scores are ACT: 29 SAT: 1820 and GPA: 3.84
You are a high school senior now - age 17 or 18?
What’s the story with your parents?
I’m 17. My parents are divorced, I live with my dad and have no idea where my mother is. I can’t really renew my papers since I need my mother’s signature for the process and I have no way of contacting her
Then go to your embassy/consulate and apply for a new passport. You can do that from outside your country. I’ve done it. Lots of my friends & colleagues of other nationalities have done it.
Are you applying as an international student or as an undocumented person (under Dream Act or other such program). If you are applying as an international, you’ll need a passport and visa, so go get it renewed. Whether you need your parent’s signature, or both parents, is up to your country. In the US, at 17, you’d only need one parent’s signature.
If you are applying under the Dream Act, you’ll need to check with the program to see what the need. For the CSS, if you don’t have a visa, you don’t have one. It may prevent you from receiving some types of aid.
Doesn’t the state of Texas have aid for students like you?
