Hello, I'll be visiting Penn State main on March 26th. My parents and I are curious about how the dorm rooms look like up in East Hall and Pollock. I was wondering if we could just show up and ask someone there to go take a look or do I have to schedule an appointment? Would people let us do that?

All of the dorm buildings are locked, and the students are warned all the time about not letting anyone they don’t know into the building, so I probably wouldn’t count on going that route. There is a sample dorm room which they show you as part of the tour, so I’d suggest calling admissions and asking if they’ll be doing any tours that day. (Bonus: if you go on the tour, they usually also give you a coupon for a free meal at the commons.)

Pretty much teh same as what momwriter said. When I went, they showed us a janitors closet-turned east halls dorm room. Th closet was a bit smaller than the actual thing though. I was lucky enough to get to stay overnight with student and got the full experience. While the dorms aren’t huge, they had no problem fitting everything into it, even without a loft.

While you’re correct about the warnings, I’m betting that if you were to just ask you’d have a 75% or better shot of someone showing you what you want to see. Having someone randomly approach you and ask would seem a bit unusual but I’d be surprised if you actually got turned down.

Oh okay, thank you all!! Can’t wait to visit!
