visit

Hey all. I’m taking a visit to OSU this coming Friday. Is there anything specific anyone would like to see for the CC visit report?

How is Columbus?

I'd love to hear anything about the Psychology dept, honors program, and Lincoln tower dorms in particular.

I would also loveee to know about Columbus realistically... Good and bad, beautiful/ugly, and the food... And if you're a sushi afficiando, try Sapporo Wind. I'l be going to Columbus in the next couple months, hopefully!

Bento Go-Go also has good sushi, and they're right by campus. Inexpensive, too. But I've never found Sapporo Wind, I'd love to try it!

Lincoln Tower is awesome! You should live here. Come to campus and I can give you a personal tour of floor 19 if you like. No, seriously. Recruiting people to OSU is one of my favorite activities.

Velaen,

I just asked kcarls to try Sopporo Wind because I've never been to Columbus. but I've heard good things about the sushi @ Sopporo. Please, do let me know if you get a chance to try the sushi at Sopporo! Hmm... a bento shop near campus-- yum!

AND I spelled aficionado incorrectly. Please excuse my error.

Speaking of sushi-related restaurants, I remember, during our OSU visit, my D and I were walking on High Street toward the Ohio Union when she noticed some kind of Japanese/sushi restaurant across the street from the campus and she got psyched(she's quite an Asian food lover), and said she definitely wanted to check it out in the future; perhaps it was one of the two places mentioned in this thread?

Anyway, kcarls, only if you happen to get a chance during your visit, my D would would be interested what the dining halls and campus food are like. (we didn't go into the cafeterias during our visit) Thanks.

Momonthehill, I wonder if your daughter was looking at the one on North High Street (opps, just re-read your post and you did say high street ha). I see it all the time when I'm down on campus and want to try it, too. I can't seem to think of the name though, I don't think it's Bento's or Sapp's. Hmm.

Kcarls, leave something in the CC visit report on the dorms if you happen to tour any of them. I remember going in to a few South campus ones (Mack I think), but I'm more interested in North.

saint_paul, it sounds like we're talking about the same place. :)

By the way, what did you think of Mack Hall? One of the Scholars Programs is located there.

Bento Go-Go is on N. High right across from campus, and right next to Chipotle! But remember, first-years living in the residence halls are required to have a meal plan (get 100 swipes, because they'll definitely eat out or have Easy Mac in the dorm a lot), so don't go to real restaurants too often or you'll have way too many swipes left over.

Momonthehill,

In ref to Mack -- I really liked it as a traditional college style dorm. It had a decent sized lounge and lobby area in the front, a piano room, and a friendly looking front desk. The actual rooms were a bit small, but then, what dorm room isn't? They had two beds bunked together, a computer desk, closet, and some other misc. furniture. It was definitely sized for 2 students, not 4. I can't remember which floor we were on, but I remember the tour guide guy saying that the halls were co-ed with the girls all on one side and the guys on the opposite (speaking of traditional dorm rooms). Mack has the corridor bathrooms, but we didn't check those out. One feature that was nice was the outdoor garden-esque square in "center" of the dorm. When I went in Fall, they left the doors open and the fresh air came in. Someone in our group voiced a concern over safety, but the tour guide guy said that they locked it down regularly just like the rest of the doors. Also, another nice feature -- Mack is located smack in the center of things. It's very close to the Honors & Scholars house (as far as remember), a lot of the South Campus buildings, and all of the "good food."

ok, I just got my itinerary today; looks pretty sweet! Anyhow, if anybody has questions they'd like me to ask during the information sessions, or just things to look for, just reply to this post or drop me a private message.

I'll be getting rather a lot of information on these topics especially, as well as about the university generally:

Honors program
honors dorms
linguistics department--I have an interview w/ a professor (finding out about the ling dept at OSU was the reason I joined CC in the first place--I know there has to be somebody else on this forum who's interested!)

I am a great lover of sushi; unfortunately, my dad can't abide the stuff and since he's going to be spending the money on this trip, I won't be able to check the restaurant you all have been mentioning out. Sorry about that.

BTW, I'm leaving Thursday afternoon, so if something isn't posted by Thursday @ noon or so, I probably won't see it.

saint_paul, thank you very much for the informative write-up about Mack; it sounds pretty good. (although I do hope that they keep the doors secure--unfortunately, such are the times we live in)

kcarls, have a safe and enjoyable trip. Although she won't be in the Honors Program and my D is planning to major in International Studies, she's always enjoyed learning foreign languages, and has mentioned that she might consider pursuing a minor in linguistics.
