Visiting Boston

Hey guys! I’ve been accepted to BU but have actually never visited… I am attending the open house on Saturday and will stay overnight and want to visit the city of Boston on Sunday. My question is (to the current BU students, or those who have visited the school & city), what should I do in so little time? I want to get a feel as to what it’s like to be a student at BU but also what it’s like to live so close to Boston.

So, for a quick visit, what should I do? Good places to eat, attractions, things to see, e.t.c. would be really helpful.

Also, the BU open house says that they will give us a pass and we do our own tour. Does that mean we will have access to dorms, buildings, e.t.c?

Duck boat tours! Ask the hotel concierge as soon as you check in.

Living so close to Boston…? Oh, no, you will be living IN Boston at BU. Have a blast! I was going from one meeting to another this morning driving past Boston common, and thought, what a great place to be a college student!

–from a parent who is a lifelong Bostonian

You will have access to dorms, buildings, and FitRec with the pass they give you at the Open House. have fun!!! you’ll love Boston  It’s a super walkable city, so feel free to just explore at your leisure. You’ll get a good feel for it that way.

At the open house you should check out the dorms (West Campus and Warren specifically because those are for freshman)… Dining halls (West Campus or Warren) … GSU (George Sherman Union … food court …) and if you have time you should visit CAS or SMG if you are in SMG, COM if you are in COM, etc. … You should also visit the FitRec because it is beautiful … and StuVi just to look at but you shouldnt choose that as your freshman dorming (also it’s impossible for freshman to get in lol)

Newbury Street which is a 15-20 minute walk from BU Central (or you can take the Green line to Hynes Convention)

This is the shopping street in Boston that is really popular and a lot of students go there to shop and chill. Also there’s a lot of restaurants that line the street.
Cafe Jaffa is a nice place to eat there (middle eastern food)

Other nice food places near BU:
Sunset Cantina (mexican) - west
Brown Sugar (thai) - west
Super 88 (asian) - west
Noodle Street (thai) - bu central
Angora Cafe (deli/icecream) - west
Fin’s (sushi) - kenmore
