I was deferred from Wharton with a solid application (2360 SAT, 35 ACT, 3.85ish GPA, leadership in extracurriculars, several thousand dollar business, my best essays) and I'm wondering why. I know that college decisions are random to a slight degree, but I truly believed that this school was perfect for me and me for it.

So, I pose this question to all those accepted: did you ever visit the campus? Or, perhaps more pertinent - did any of you NOT visit?

First off know that I don’t live anywhere near philly, or even the northeast for that matter. I just got into wharton and I visited the school 3 times and sat in on a class there

transcript = most important part of app. 3.85 uw doesn’t say much about how impressive yours was. and your best essays may not have been received as well as you expected. also note that teacher recs are just as important as the essays(maybe more so)

I’ve never visited the campus through a tour where I had to register or put my name down somewhere. I attended a summer program at Penn before in sophomore year for a month, but I didn’t mention that program in my common app either. They invited me to the “Ivy in your backyard” thing, which is mainly an invite for Philly residents, but I didn’t go to that either since the ACT was on that day. So essentially, I’m pretty sure one’s visits to Penn aren’t taken into consideration for acceptances.

Haha, I understand that there a hundred other reasons that could play a role. I understand that.

I’m just wondering if Penn would accept someone who had never even been to their campus, had never seen its atmosphere, and would be committing four years of their life to a place they might be miserable.

I visited. I don’t even remember if I ever even filled out anything so that they could keep track. Visiting is awesome. No effect on the admissions other than that you may have more to write about it your essay
