I will be a college sophomore next semester at a school on the east coast, and I'm wondering whether anyone knows about Rice's visiting student program. The website suggests that visiting students are enrolled as such for a semester or two, and then they can transfer to Rice AFTER not being at Rice for a semester.

But... Would I be able to do that? Because I would have to be at my school for at least this fall semester, since I didn't apply to Rice's visiting student program already. And I don't think I could transfer if I've already started my junior year (including the Rice credits I would get as a visiting student...)

If anyone can help me out a bit, please do! Thanks!

It might be better in the long run to apply as a mid-year transfer for Rice. When I was at Rice, Rice accepted mid-year transfers, but I don’t know if they still do. If you really want to go to Rice, it’ll be better if you transfer earlier so you can get re-adjusted and still be able to enjoy 2 solid years without having to deal with a transition again.

Rice no longer accepts mid year transfers, my year (Spring 2010) was the last time they did. It sucks because I don’t know if I would have transferred if I didn’t do it in the Spring, and now nobody else has that opportunity. But I think visiting students and international exchange students can still enter in the Spring, although I’m not definite on that.
