Voiding an ED Agreement Before Submitting Application

I somewhat impulsively decided to apply Early Decision to Johns Hopkins University, mostly due to my mom's constant badgering about how much better my chances are statistically of being admitted to JHU if I apply ED (which I, personally, believe to be a common misconception). Upon further consideration, I have decided that I would like to apply to a few Ivies, as well as to JHU, in order to at least see if I have a chance of gaining acceptance to those schools, but there stands a chance that I will never know whether I could have been accepted to those schools if I end up getting accepted ED to JHU, in which case I would have to withdraw my other applications well before I would receive their decisions. While I do very much like JHU, I'm not completely sure that I wish to attend there if I stand a chance of being accepted to these few Ivies of my choice.

My current situation is as follows: I have filled out the Early Decision agreement form provided by the Common App, specifying JHU as my school of choice, and I have given it to my guidance counselor to submit to JHU. I am not completely sure that they have submitted it yet, but chances are they have since I handed it to them over a week ago. However, I have not yet submitted my application to JHU where I would have specified that I am choosing to apply ED, and thus the only document they have to go by is the ED agreement which my counselor supposedly already submitted to them.

Is there any way that I can void the ED agreement that I signed and simply apply Regular Decision to JHU instead? Since I have not yet submitted my application to JHU, does that give me some sort of leverage in this situation, or am I incorrect in this assumption? Thank you in advance for your help.

1) Ask your counselor if the paperwork has been sent yet.

2) If it has been sent, contact admissions at JHU, and let them know that you will not be applying until the RD round.

Lots of people do this every year. Don’t worry about it.

Does it say the GC ED form was downloaded on the CA?
My d did ED to her first choice and the ED Agreement had to be completed by my d, myself and my daughter’s GC. The GC filled out the form and downloaded it to the CA and we were able to see it was downloaded and then when the school received it. I am not sure about JHU but perhaps you can see from the CA?
Good luck.

I would not assume the GC has promptly completed the task. Ask. Our GC sat on something similar for 4+ weeks. There is a lot going on right now for GCs.
