I'm hoping to get involved in lots of community service during college, and I'm wondering how much of that is available in the Vassar community. I plan to be premed, so I'll definitely want to volunteer at a hospital. Is there a hospital that is accessible to the students?

There are a variety of community service clubs on campus related to the greater community of Dutchess County as well as national/international issues. I don't know of any hospital volunteering that goes on: I think most Vassar students wait until graduate school to get involved in that. You could probably do something with fieldwork at the hospital if you were interested, but I'm not sure how far away the nearest hospital is from Vassar. The school does offer, however, EMS training to all interested students in the form of a class. Once certified you can do work on, and presumably off, campus.

For the last three years I have volunteered at Vassar hospital as a high school student. Im pretty sure they offered it to college students as well. IT is about 10 minutes away from the campus. Ironically I volunteered at Vassar hospital not realizing I'd be going to Vassar College.

Back in the day, many of my classmates volunteered at local hospitals. Vassar Brothers Hospital and St. Francis Hospital are both in Poughkeepsie.
