VT or W&M

I have to choose between Virginia Tech and William and Mary. I want to become a doctor and plan to major in biology or chemistry. Which has a better program for pre med and the sciences? This will be the deciding factor in where I attend, so your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Recent med school acceptance rates for W&M applicants have been between 70-80%. I doubt that Virginia Tech would be anywhere near that; W&M is a far more selective school.

W & M for sure!!!

W&M no brainer!!!

W&M fo sho.

Congratulations on your acceptances! Although WM is a more selective school- esp for the gals- and is a great fit for so many students, it may or may not be for you. Your two schools are very different in many ways: student body size, environments, number of course offerings, etc., and it all depends on what you are looking for in your total undergraduate experience.

I love both of those schools and wouldn’t have any problem with my youngest going to either (s is at VT now). While WM is known for their pre-med program, VT’s sciences are strong, too. Can you visit both and see where you can see yourself spending the next four years? You can’t go wrong at either place really. It is all up to you making the most of out wherever you end up! Good luck!

So, do medical school admissions officers look at one’s grades only, or do they also consider where an applicant is coming from?

They consider your workload, which has something to do with where you are coming from. The most important things are the MCAT scores and the GPA.
