Ive been seeing this thing on the internet, that it is “easier” (still hard) for a guy to get in oos. Is this true? Is it still as difficult as other elite virginia public schools, like UVA? Would a 30 ACT put you in a good position if you are an out of state male, and you have a high gpa, etc.?
Im guessing this is because W&M has a lot of female students/applicants
Thanks for the help!
So when I went on the tour, here’s what admissions lady said. Wm(William and mary) received about 15,000 apps a year. 10,000 are oos and 5,000 are instate. They admit roughly 5,000 people a year. 2/3 of those people MUST be residents of Virginia due to state laws or whatever. Of all the applicants, the male acceptance rate is about 40% and female is about 28%, this equals roughly 33% due to more female apps. So yes it technically it’s easier for an oos male to get in, but still very hard.
And again, I’m not expert this is just what I remember! Good luck!
And if William and mary is for sure your top choice, definitely apply ED.
thank you that’s really helpful info! I cant apply early decision because I need to consider financial aid. I’m trying to figure out if I should apply to W&M as a reach, and if it would be worth it compared to a private school with a similar acceptance rate that does not consider the state you live in (Northeastern, NYU)
Yeah I am not allowed to apply Ed for the same reasons. I do know that if w&m would be considered a reach for you, then you probably don’t have a great shot at merit scholarships(trust me I have looked multiple multiple multiple times)!
