I was accepted to both W&M and Binghamton and I’m trying to choose between these schools. I’m planning on going pre-med majoring in bio/chem.
I visited both schools and prefer W&M over Binghamton. I like W&M’s campus but Binghamton’s was fine. The area I think both are fine and I’m not much of a party person so I feel like I wouldn’t have a problem at either school. I am a little hesitant after reading about how difficult classes were at W&M and such. I know W&M has more research opportunities and is more focused on undergrad teaching. My stats were average for W&M but were a little on the higher end for Binghamton so I’m not too sure if I will be able to perform very well at W&M. I’m not too sure about academics at Binghamton so I can’t say how hard/easy classes would be but I would assume they would be easier than at W&M but not too easy either.
Price wise, I’m an international student so cost of attendance for W&M would be ~56k and Binghamton would be ~41k. However, cost would not be an issue. I talked with my parents about budget and they said the schools + med school was within budget (assuming med school is around 70-80k a year)
Any advice on which college I should attend would be appreciated.
Do not worry about failure. William and Mary accepted you, so you should be able to handle the work. Colleges at this level offer wonderful support programs to help students succeed, too. Attend whichever college you prefer.
I don’t know how to not worry about failure when my high school is, in my opinion, as bad as it gets. Getting top grades with minimal studying, teachers not finishing all topics for the ap test. One teacher says “we’re not doing this topic, but it’s okay Since this topic is only 20% of the test. As long as you get everything else right, you should still be able to get a 5”. So I’m not sure if I will truly be able to keep up.
I would love to attend W&M but I’m not too sure if I can handle their “rigorous” workload
Are you in state for Binghamton? Is there a cost difference?
If not, although Binghamton is a fine school, I think W&M is better regarded.
There was a survey published in Virginia papers on workload at state universities. W&M was one hour more per week than UVA (which is less often cited for having a “rigorous” workload). That is only about 8.5 minutes a day. It is largely a matter of staying organized.
I’m an international so I would pay OOS for both schools. Cost of attendance would be ~41k for Binghamton and ~56k for W&M.
