W on transcript

I have 4 days to decide if I want to drop this class. I took it to kind of find out what I want to do with my major. It’s not going to fulfill a core requirement and it’s not really related to my major (Psych major, the class is Intro to Criminology). I thought it would be fun but the prof. has a super heavy accent and is hard to understand so I bombed the first of only 3 Exams. There’s no homework and attendance isn’t graded so I don’t really see how I can salvage the F I have right now unless I get perfect scores on the other two exams, which is unlikely as I can barely understand the professor. So what I’m asking is how bad will a W look on my transcript when I apply to grad school? I’m only a freshman but hopefully this will be my only W or one of only a couple. Any opinions/similar experiences would help a lot!! Thanks in advance

If it is at the beginning of your academic record and not repeated too many times then it should not have any impact.

I agree with @xraymancs. I’d also like to add that most students to withdraw from at least one course throughout their time at university. If someone (an employer or grad school interviewer) asks about this in the future, as long as you give a decent explanation–i.e. one that is not just an academic cop out–you should be fine.

I have one W on my transcript and was accepted to every graduate program I applied to. No one ever asked about it. Don’t risk bombing the class an dropping your GPA.
