Duke says on the following page that international students should submit ‘2015 W2s or earning statements for the parent and student’. While I am clear about the CSS and tax returns, I have no clue about W2s. Can anybody tell me what they are and if I, being an international student, need to submit them?

Good question. W2s are documents US residents who work in the US receive from their employer that report on the employee’s earnings for the previous year. They are used for filing of US taxes. As an international, you will not have W2s, but you should provide some documentation from your or your parents employer that reports the salary/earnings for the 2015 calendar year. Hope that helps.
Yes you will need to submit them. They are used to gauge how much aid you might need.
@ConcertoinD I will be submitting my parents tax returns but not the W2’s (because we don’t have them). Will that be ok? And if they are documents filed by U.S Citizens, why has Duke mentioned them in the International section?
@sgopal2 I am an International student.
Only US-based business entities paying employees working in the US will be able to provide them (by law, they have to). You might ask your parents if their employers can provide a “Statement of Earnings” or something like that for the calendar year 2015. Schools are very experienced with international students–you might just contact the office of financial aid for one or more schools and ask them. Should be straightforward.
Hello - I am aware that you are an international student. But even internationals sometimes have W-2 statements (for example if your parents work at an American office).
Other countries have similar documents that are provided to the tax bureau. I guess you are from Spain? If so what do your parents use to document income? There must be some type of statement that is provided (apart from the tax return itself).
All right I will ask my parents if they have a 'Statement of Earnings". But can’t I do this? Submit the CSS Profile, the income tax returns and then wait if Duke requires any more documents. As far as I know, universities are quite flexible in their deadlines for supporting materials like financial aid forms and stuff. If they require anything else (W2s etc), they can just tell me.
@sgopal2 My parents don’t work in an American office. I am actually from India. I just love Barcelona.
Sure you can do that. But wait too long and they may not have a financial aid package for you.
