If I am on the wait list for Fall, 2016, what are my chances for admittance?
It’s really hard to say just because it is really competitive. At this point, it’s a good idea to start looking at your other options. You will hear back by April 15th.
Thanks, I am—I am flying down to visit my #2 choice tomorrow. Just wanted to find out what the trends may be for Madison, if they accept many of the postponements. Probably hard to know, right?
Call them, I called today and learned I was on the priority waitlist which means if I have a 2.5 GPA or higher at the end of the semester I’ll be admitted
That’s great!! Congratulations! Who did you call? Anyone specific?
@azontelli are you referring to Minnesota or Wisconsin? Also, what semester are you talking about? I’m guessing your first semester is over, so you should already know if you have a 2.5 or better there. If you are talking about 2nd semester…that seems like a long time to wait to get a definite decision assuming your school year ends in June or possibly May at the earliest.
edit: Also, in another thread, you told someone you got waitlisted “a couple of times” before you got in. …You got waitlisted more than once? Also, I have not heard anyone else that got waitlisted state that they received a decision.
Hi, I was recently waitlisted to Minnesota and I am planning to send in a letter of appeal but have a couple of questions. On the form they give you it says you have to call the number and write down the name you talk to. Out of curiosity, I was wondering if when you call is it like an interview on why you want to write a letter of appeal or like confirmation your doing it and/or questions? If any one has done the process it would be amazing if you reply:-) Thanks!
Also, what are you supposed to say mentioning anything with the waitlist on the phone call without being rude and just asking why you are on the waitlist?
@BrewCrew82 Minnesota, I was waitlisted for Spring of 2016 but will be admitted for Fall of 2016 when I submit my final transcript…It’s not waiting for a decision, I will have no problem getting a 2.5 this semester so it’s definite that I will be enrolled for fall. Thanks for trying to simply find problems with my posts instead of seeing how my perspective might help.
Have you been admitted yet? I still haven’t heard back and was wondering if you did!
@684MIC I just asked if I could talk to an admissions counselor about my status on the wailist and they called me back a week later and told me that my status was on the priority waitlist, they get the call a lot they won’t think its rude
Posted this in the admitted students thread and thought I would post it here as well.
My son was waitlisted back in February and received an email yesterday that he was denied. Not overly surprised. He is OOS, had great EC’s including a paid internship in an accounting department, president of FBLA (state qualifier 2 yrs in a row), 28 on ACT. However, had a 3.2 UW GPA (significantly improved since his Sophomore year).
Good news is he was accepted at UW- La Crosse, UW - Eau Claire, and Iowa State and has decided to go to Iowa State. He decided to go to Iowa State after he was denied by UW-Madison a few weeks ago and probably would not have decided to go to Minnesota even if he had received an acceptance.
If you have been waitlisted and are checking your App tracker for an updated status, you will not find it there. They will send an email to whatever email you gave them (my son’s app tracker still states that he will receive an update by April 15th).
Thanks for your posts. I still haven’t heard back but after flying down to visit my #2 school, It became my #1 choice so I am no longer ‘waiting’ on MN. Good luck to all of you (or your kids!). Love this forum. Helped a lot.
@BrewCrew82 I say that your son is going to a great place. I loved going to school at ISU! Of course, I am biased. :)>-
Same here, son received email stating he was denied. About a month ago he made his decision to attend Missouri (his Dad’s alma mater plus scholarship $$). He was deciding between Iowa and Indiana. Only applied to 4 schools so a 75% acceptance rate isn’t too shabby :-).
Wishing all the students on here the best as they start their college careers next Fall!
