has anyone heard that they have gotten off the wait list yet? i know brown has already started.

they have not said anything yet...and the subject title of this thread is in bad taste

i apologize...

and you are the authority on wait lists are you?

hey all. i'm checking in because, i'll be honest, i'm not the type of person to cry and am trying very hard not to do so at present.

so as you may remember, my mom started her new job at Columbia on Monday. we've been trying, very slowly and subtly, to begin planting the seeds of knowledge that I am the daughter of an employee and am on the waitlist, hoping we weren't too late. Well I just got the most fantastic email from Columbia - two days before i planned to send them a nice little note to please change my status to an employee child:

Dear Renee,

In my prior correspondence, I promised you more news concerning your candidacy for Columbia.

We have now heard from all of our admitted students, and the Class of 2009 is full. This leaves us with the responsibility of informing you, unfortunately, that we are removing your name from the waiting list so that you may go forward with your plans for the coming year.

This has been an extraordinary year at Columbia in that both the quality of the applicant pool and the responses to our offers of admission have exceeded our expectations. While the Committee on Admissions recognizes and applauds your record of academic and personal achievement and is furthermore convinced that the contributions you could make at Columbia would be worthwhile ones indeed, we are unable to admit any additional students for the Class of 2009.

I am confident that you will be successful in college and wish you the best in all your endeavors. Thank you again for your interest in Columbia.

Sincerely,

Jessica Marinaccio
Director of Undergraduate Admissions

P.S. Please note that a hardcopy of the above has been mailed out today.

As you all know, I have never thought that Columbia was the place for me. I am still die-hard Dartmouth, even though, with my mom's status, tuition at Columbia would be free. My friends cocked their heads when they heard I had chosen to remain on C's waitlist, saying "I don't know...I don't picture you at Columbia/in the city/anywhere but Dartmouth."

I had no idea I cared about Columbia until I got their reply - but I realized that I still don't care about them. what I care about is the fact that if Columbia could ditch me, when my mom WORKS for them, why the hell would Dartmouth want me. I'm so terrified now that Dartmouth is my last chance. Yeah, I know Tufts is great but...somewhere in the back of my mind, beyond the I-know-i'm-not-going-to-get-in-off-the-waitlist, i kept thinking to myself that two of my friends got in, so why not me? I really thought that Dartmouth or Columbia would read my cute waitlist letters and think to themselves, we have GOT to get her up here. But no. I'm praying that Dartmouth doesn't send me anything. I'll be all out of options then.

Sorry. It just felt good to get that out.

wait, im confused...you have been accepted to dartmouth regular decision and you fear your offer being rescinded or are you on the dartmouth wait list

she is on the dartmouth wait list. we wish the best for you, bluirinka! and remember, if you really want to go to dartmouth that badly (or to put it another way--if dartmouth is a way better fit for you than tufts currently is), you can always transfer if god forbid, you don't get in from the waitlist (but we're all crossing our fingers!!).

For what it's worth I'm on the waitlist for transferring into Dartmouth and I haven't heard at all either so you're in good company.
