I was wait listed at a high selective public school. It will have around 2500 people accepting the wait list. I was just chosen to be on the dance team at this school when I went to tryouts over the weekend. The coaches said they can't contact admissions and they already took all my measurements. Will this help me get off the wait list? What should I do?

I must add that I’m legacy but I have really really low test scores. I’m scared the only reason I got wait listed was because of my dad.

If the dance team knows you’re on the WL, i’m sure they’ve run into the situation before – i.e. they know you’re not a sure thing. Since they can’t contact admissions, I don’t think it’ll help in your eventual WL status. I think the team is just covering its bases. I sympathize but i think you should not presume anything positive and focus on your other options. If a good reply from UVA comes in (and including a workable Fin Aid offer), then you can celebrate and treat it as an unexpected surprise. Barring that, I think you should put it out of your mind and treat it as a rejection. Best of luck to you

@T26E4 would it help that I applied to the biggest school instead of one of the smaller ones? I’m just scared that the only reason I got wait listed was because my mom is an alumni. I’m going to write them a letter and everything!

send an email to your admission rep and let them know your will definitely attend if accepted and than you made the dance team. then cross your fingers!

Send an email to the dean of admission explain the situation as well, don’t know if that will help. One thing you have to keep in mind, a wait list is almost the same as being rejected, so don’t count on it much. Every little thing helps, but you have to cross your fingers. You are wait listed maybe because you are a legacy, they do not want to reject you because they do not want to burn the bridge with your parents. They did not accept you because they think you cannot take their course rigor. Yes, you may have been rejected in the first place.
