Wait list

anyone hear from the wait list yet or know about what time they let people know? thanks

I called and they still don’t know whether or not they will get to it; the admissions counselor I spoke to just told me to wait a little longer (This was on Thursday, May 3 btw)

Desperate to know what’s going on with the wait list… I’ll call again today

What did they say?! I’m curious to know as well.

Nobody heard?

Just to put matters in perspective, here is the trend for the last few years:

[The waitlist at Northwestern University - chicagotribune.com](http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/ct-met-0423-waitlist.eps-20120422,0,1032471.graphic)

@NorthwesternDad - Interesting data in that link. Thanks for sharing it.

Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Please don’t hold out hope for getting into NU from the wait list! If you were able to be WL’d at NU, you probably were accepted at other wonderful colleges. Get excited about attending someplace you were admitted. Less and less people are admitted from the NU wait list annually, as the school has become more and more popular.

However, if you’re the type of person who will wonder “what if?” definitely stay on the waitlist and do whatever you can. For graduate school, I chose to stay on the waitlist at Stanford even though I had already gotten into Harvard. I ultimately got off the waitlist despite the long odds but chose to go to Harvard in the end. It can be an emotional drain to be waiting through the summer, but a few years from now, the wait won’t matter! At least you will know definitively that you had done everything you could.

If you want to attend Northwestern, be assertive starting now if you haven’t been already. I would definitely visit campus (even if it causes financial hardship- that will look even more impressive as far as showing your commitment), talk to an admissions officer, and send a polished “waitlist package” containing updates/additional recs.

My waitlisted daughter got a call from Northwestern yesterday offering her admission. She was just walking out of her AP exams when she got the call and they wanted an answer from her immediately! She asked for more time so she could talk it over with her parents and they then gave her just 24 hours. Needless to say with APs just about every day, she was very distracted. She did call NU back later with questions about financial aid, housing, etc., and they said they would send the financial aid package on Friday and then give her until Mondy for a response. Seems to me they could be a bit more reasonable in giving her time to make a decision, maybe visit the school again (we live on the east coast). She was assuming she would not be called, given recent admission numbers and already committed elsewhere. Now to offer her a slot but demand a response in 24 hours seems a bit much! And it is a major financial commitment as well - we don’t expect much of an aid package, if anything. NU was her #1 choice, but after getting waitlisted at NU and getting significant incentives from her other school, she is conflicted.

Which college/major did your daughter apply to?

@univmom12 - I can understand your dilemma, but what a LOVELY problem to have. CONGRATULATIONS!

Remember that whatever she decides on that first day of school, and at college graduation, former waitlist status will mean less than nothing. ;-D

Again, huge congrats on getting the opportunity to choose NU!

Medill. We have since heard from financial aid they are offering nothing besides the 5500 federal loan.

Thanks @Momcares. That is exactly what I told mynD when she was getting upset about the pressure to make a decision. She had all great choices in schools. I think she realizes it is hard to justify $60K a year. I’m encouraging her to mull it over and think anout why she had NU as her #1 school when she applied. Her dad is happy that she is taking cost into consideration. Mizzou offered her a very good deal.

That’s tough. Mizzou is very good in journalism too, I heard. Good luck to her, and congrats on getting in!

For something like journalism, I’d want as little debt as possible.

The Daily Northwestern published an article today about the class of 2016’s yield indicating that virtually no students will be taken off the waitlist.

“Mills said NU will take about half a dozen students off the waitlist for Medill because its yield was lower than expected, but no one from the waitlist will be taken from any other school. Last year, no students were taken from NU’s waitlist, he said.”

[Class of 2016 has record yield - Campus - The Daily Northwestern - Northwestern University](http://www.dailynorthwestern.com/campus/class-of-2016-has-record-yield-1.2739814#.T60fMZ9YvHw)

Apparently that 's not true. My son got off the waitlist today for the School of Communication. More acceptances could be coming before it’s all said and done.

Wow - it sounds like your son’s lucky day… congratulations!

Thanks, MomCares. My son is very excited about the possibility, but not 100% sure he’s going to do it. I’ll post his decision when he makes it and go into greater detail.
