Wait Listed at Cornell, but into Harvard?

Who wants to host me and a friend? :)

I'd try to stay with the friend personally. But also participate in some of the official cornell days activities. And try not to get JA'ed, ok? It would suck to get your admission rescinded.

Oh, and Spanks, i'd host you ;)....jk. I'm sure no one would question why there were suddenly a couple high schoo girls living in my dorm for a few days.....:p

yes, i will try very very hard not to get that...what would I have to do to pull off a JA?

To pull off a JA you would have to, 1) Be caught drinking in a dorm by an RA (most common), or 2) Get busted at a party inside a university-owned fraternity house (rare), 3) Get caught urinating in public (embarassing, but common), or 4) Get caught doing anything else illegal (like stealing signs off of the construction site on stewart ave....ahem)

well, I would probably be staying in a collegetown apt. w/ a sophomore friend so i think #1 is out, I don't look like a 10 year old, and tend not to do rediculous stuff so #2 sounds pretty unlikely, I can hold my bladder so thats no #3, and I already stole the "experts only" sign from mtn creek ski resort this year so my sign stealing quota is filled. I think i'm pretty safe.

Perro, host us for the 9th, lol, it's a grand idea, I'll bring you gasp decent alcohol

The admissions officers at Cornell probably just thought that you weren't a match for their school. Don't take it personally. I mean, you got into Harvard.

i'm staying in a fraternity during cornell days for two night, if i got caught would i really get my admissions rescinded?

I doubt it highly, but I want to know what happens if you get caught too lol

No it's ok to stay at a fraternity. Which house, may I ask?

Oh and lol to Spanks. :D

yea, I got into MIT but rejected from cornell?! lol

Yeah, that's so funny. ^ I'm cracking up with you over here? God forbid Cornell reject someone who got into gasp Harvard or MIT? Go away.

i'm so confused...what would be the reason/emergency for people to urinate in public during cornell days?

quynh2007 and spanks,

i don't where from my comments you got that i was an arrogant jerk. Yes, the cornell rejection did come as a bit of a suprise. No doubt, Cornell is a great school and they do have to turn away thousands of qualified applications each year, but if something like this happened to you...would you say that you wouldn't be surprised AT ALL?? Harvard and Stanford are more selective than Cornell and (sorry to say, but it is true) their applicant pools are more competitive; therefore, it would come as a bit of a suprise to anybody who was rejected from the latter. We are not bashing Cornell here (at least I'm not)

...and spanks, form which of my comments did you infer that I have a crappy attitude?

and what anecdotes, quynh2007? I am simply trying to understand what the reasons for my rejection might have been...Cornell probably does weigh in some factors differently..but tell me, have you not, for one second, pondered upon the reason for your rejection at some school you applied to? And, if you weren't rejected anywhere, then try to think, imagine,...that if you were rejected to a school where you were a well qualified applicant, wouldn't you also not wonder the reason for your rejection?

I thought so.

Perhaps, this post of mine might make me seem arrogant; however, it really angers me that some of you simply assumed my personality and my character through a couple of posts. Please don't assume these things and bash people on these boards.

Again, congratulations on your acceptances...and don't get offended so easily....as we say in California...CHILL, DUDE!

muff muff whine sniff *tear muff cry ....

smack

Haosquared....not so much public urination during cornell days, but I was talking in general. Believe me, if you've ever been ****ass drunk and 30 minutes away from your dorm, say, coming back from collegetown or west campus, you know that that human bladder is a finicky character, and that the walk all the way home can be amazingly agonizing. Some people do not have the fortitude to endure this trial, and a good number of them pay the consequences (the woods adjacent to risley are not as private as some may think....).

Oh and hotelie you crack me up, as always.

i wouldn't remember. i was ignorant during the application process (mainly due to my rush -- i was a junior/senior, and poor that i couldn't travel to different schools and etc)

i got into every school i completed application (i was extremely lazy and only applied to cornell, duke, UCSD, and UCLA. yes, i was crazy, and am extremely lucky i got into them, even as a NY resident having no advantage at any of them. i applied to yale, but never sent in my fee b/c i couldn't afford it and didn't know anything about waivers until too late)

my anecdotal response was to the fact that you contributed being rejected to turning in your application late, and i'm saying that you shouldn't do that unless you have proof that the majority of people who sent in their application late were also rejected (i can tell you for sure that that is false).

just because someone is a good match for harvard/mit/stanford doesn't mean that they'll be a good match at cornell, and the likes. every school is unique, and will thus have it's own set of ideals.

um...i know many well qualified people get rejected. it is called a cr*pshoot for a reason at the schools in the top tier. the reason for most rejections comes down to compatibility and just the sheer luck. had your application been read at a different time, or whatever, the outcome at both harvard AND cornell could have been different. just count your blessings that you are given a chance to study at one of the world's leading institition. many well qualified are denied that chance.

i consider myself very blessed and lucky too b/c I was accepted to one of the world's leading institutions. and i understand that sometimes it is just a crapshoot at some of these schools and perhaps I made a mistake in assuming that late applications may mean rejection. b/c i thought that perhaps admins would correlate late applications with lethargy or apathy. but i admit, i made a mistake. i guess late applications do not necessarily mean rejection. but i also said that the most likely reason for my rejection might have been my poor mid year grades.

we agree on a lot of things..so why not just end this here instead of continuing this pointless argument? neways, dont get so offensive.

Pointless arguments always start on pointless threads.

oh no norcal, now you've done it...lets all leave before this turns into a flame and I get blamed (I always get blamed, dont I?) and have my posting taken away again...

Why is that strange? 25% of Harvard's entering class has under 1400 on the SAT...Cornell rejects students with 1450-1500 on their SATs frequently.
