<p>I just got wait-listed by Ohio Wesleyan for EA. I'm not that upset, but I never knew one could get wait-listed EA by any school. I would have thought I would have gotten deferred. And yes, it says wait-listed and not deferred. They did request I send in any sat/or act scores they do not have. This thread isn't about why I got wait-listed, but has anyone heard of people getting wait-listed for EA? I really have NEVER heard of a college doing this. Also, this is the admission counselor who added me on facebook. Thanks!</p>
<p>I haven’t heard of this before either but maybe they are looking at this as deferred means you’d get your answer when the regular decision applicants get theirs and “wait listed for early action” means you might get an answer sooner - perhaps shortly after they see a new test score?</p>
<p>This happened to a friend of my daughter’s three years ago.</p>
<p>The school that wait-listed the student was Assumption College in Massachusetts.</p>
<p>My daughter also got an FB friend request from an OWU counselor. She accepted because, as she told me, “I have nothing to hide!” I was a little taken aback that a college counselor would do this – pretty gutsy if you ask me! </p>
<p>As far as being wait listed for EA, I have no idea if this is normal. But that said, we haven’t heard anything from OWU on my daughter’s EA and weren’t expecting to until next month. How did you hear? Was it through the mail, via email, or were you able to check online? Thx!</p>
<p>I really don’t think so, the letter basically said if there is any room that they would let me know. I am not retaking the SAT for the 3rd time for this college. I have taken the ACT once (did worse then SAT) and the SAT twice. My math/reading stayed exactly the same and my writing went up 70 points. I am pretty sure the only reason I got wait-listed was because of my scores. Honestly, I still haven’t decided if I want to be kept on the wait-list. I don’t want to go to a college which didn’t want me in the first place. I already have been accepted to 5 other schools. </p>
<p>At first, I didn’t accept the OWU request but then I did. I just blocked her from statuses I didn’t want her to see. OWU sent me an email telling me to join their 2016 college group on Dec 9th. I emailed the admissions officer asking if this meant I was in, she said my application was still under review. The date of the wait-list letter is Dec 9th. SMH</p>

<p>Also, I got the wait-list letter by mail. My application status online never changed. I applied in the end of October, but it took them until the end of November to get my SAT scores due to problems with College Board.</p>
<p>My son was wait listed from Elon in the EA round and then accepted in the regular pool. It’s not that unusual, especially from Colleges that are popular.</p>
<p>early_college - the admissions office does not equal the college. Should my high school friend who did not get off the waitlist for Yale until the end of August have decided that if Yale didn’t love her she shouldn’t go? She still loved Yale. That said, if you like the other five schools that have already accepted you, of course it’s silly to stay on the waitlist.</p>
<p>kathiep, was your son waitlisted or deferred? Most schools defer which means you get put back in the pool with regular applicants. I’m not sure what waitlist in this context means. Does it mean he might hear back sooner if some EA applicants decline, or does it mean he’ll be on the waitlist next spring. If it’s the first, I’d probably be inclined to stay on the list, if it’s the latter, I wouldn’t.</p>
<p>I personally rather go to a college that wants me. I have nothing against OWU though. </p>
<p>I was deferred from one school EA, but I will find out in the end of January if I’m admitted. It’s the only instate school I applied to. OWU was in the middle of the stack of my 17 schools, so I am thinking I may just let them go. Unless, they would give me a decision earlier then May but I won’t be taking my SATs again and that’s the reason they wait-listed me. Oh well…</p>
<p>e_c, I can’t see anything in what you’ve said about the letter that says that your SAT scores were the issue. I understand why you think it’s likely, but they haven’t said so directly.</p>
<p>They asked specifically for new SAT/ACT scores out of everything else they could have asked for, but I knew my SAT scores were low for the school.</p>
<p>A few years ago, Emory waitlisted kids from the ED pool (they don’t defer in ED only accept and reject) …</p>
<p>don’t get personal. a school is a business, they have to pick the best student they think is best for the school. waitlist or deferred in any round is just their selection process, they have no love or hate against you personally. If it is still your first choice and you believe if you go there will have a brighter future, wait it out. if, however, you lost confidence in the school then pick one of the five that accepted you. Do u believe that those five who accepted you love you as well? No, I think they picked you because your qualifications, no love here.</p>
<p>I personally do not think it is just about stats. My common app essay was very personal and dear to my heart. I applied to mostly CTCL schools, so they look at the overall candiate and admissions is as hollistic as it can get. I wouldn’t take it as personal if it was from UGA or another state school because to me, those type of schools are a business. I also interviewed with all these schools, so it does get personal. I applied to 17schools, so I still have several schools to hear back from. But I honestly am over the wait-list. I just was suprised one could even get wait-listed EA, I just never read about it. Getting wait-listed ED is less surpising to me then getting waitlisted EA.</p>
<p>mathmom, I’m pretty sure it was wait-listed but now that you ask if it wasn’t deferred, I’m second guessing what I remember. Funny how something that was so important a year ago is now forgettable!</p>
<p>My daughter was waitlisted at a college with an EA-like program - it wan’t strictly EA, but Brandeis had sent her a “Blue Ribbon” application, which was an invitation to apply with no application fee, with a promise of a decision in February… and they waitlisted her. No great loss, as she would not have even applied to the school but for their invitation — but it was a little disconcerting at the time.</p>
<p>I am really over this wait-list and at this point, I will probably not be accepting the offer as I have already been accepted to 5 other great schools. If they ever did accept me, I would probably get a crappy financial aid package. I can see admit-deny come into play here if they ever did accept me.</p>
