I have had three children go through this process with Minnesota and Wisconsin. We always encouraged them to tell the school ASAP if they know they will not be attending. It put my daughters in control and gave the school more information on who they could accept! A lot of students are “on the bubble;” if you know you will not be attending, your early communication helps someone else. It’s the right thing to do! Good luck to all!
@UWDaughters I couldn’t agree more! Waitlisted daughter is sick to her stomach. Minnesota is her 1st choice (School of Nursing — limited spots). Would’ve preferred an admit or denial so she could commit or move on. This whole process is sooo stressful.
I took my daughter to an admitted students day in mid February. We went to the School of Nursing presentation and as of that date they said about 80 students had confirmed acceptance for 130 total spots this fall. Of the four kids at the presentation that day, only my daughter had accepted and I definitely didn’t get the feeling the other three would end up in the nursing program based on what they or their parents were saying. Hope this helps and good luck to your daughter!
@dhart87 thank you for the info! We’ll keep crossing our fingers for an admittance.
My D just emailed to have her application withdrawn. It’s heartbreaking because UMN has bee her first choice since we started the college search process. She fought hard to get admitted (she was initially deferred), but in the end the lack of financial assistance prevented her from accepting. She will attend the honors program at Augsburg University instead. Their financial aid offer made attending a fraction of the cost of Minnesota while still allowing her to relocate from Ohio to the Twin Cities. She is happy with her decision, but it’s still bittersweet. Hopefully her withdrawal will open a spot for another deserving student.
@livviegracesmom Thank you for sharing. Good luck to your daughter. I have always heard good things about Augsburg!
