Hello everyone I just found out today that I have been Waitlisted from FSU. Is there anything that I can do for an acceptance? I have fully realized if I plan on becoming a lawyer FSU/Tallahassee will be a great start on making a decision for law school and opportunities of internships.

Application: CARE program
In-state/OSS: In-State
Type of School: Parochial
ACT/SAT: Mediocre 19/870
GPA: Unweighted: 2.95 Weighted: 3.2
Course Rigor: Honors--Sophomore year, Dual Enrollment Senior Year.
College Credits: 12
Extracurricular Activities: SHAPE (Senior's Mentoring Freshman), K.L.U Club (benefits children afflicted with pediatric cancer), Student Ambassador, Track & Field
Service Hours ALL 4 Years: 125

Also to note, I contacted admissions basically at first it sounded as if I'm in... admissions rep says we need mothers tax information for summer aid etc. Yet I told them about my situation mom not wanting to submit her info etc. and how my dad submitted his (Parent's Divorced). Received an e-mail about parent's situation -- contacted financial aid and they sounded satisfied. Days pass by and now I check my status and find out that I have been wait-listed due to strong applicant pool.

How did you find out you were wait-listed? Online status-check?

I recommend sending in your mid-year transcript, especially if you have good senior grades. Perhaps get a letter of recomendation. With an 870, you should probably retake the SAT but it might be too late to do that.

CARE always fills early. And while they were waiting to straighten out the financial info, the program may just have filled. CARE is such as small program that you probably just have to wait and see if someone drops out of it. Given the economy and that it is only Feb, you stand a chance.

Yes, I found out through online-status check. I'm kind of irked about the situation because I applied back in September, and if this "mix-up" didn't occur more than likely I would be a Nole today. I know of many people with lower GPA's gaining acceptance but I guess everything happens for a reason. I don't plan on taking the SAT it's not for me but I'm re-taking the ACT for bright future purposes. I have already sent in my mid-year grades and plan on sending my CC transcript soon. I was hoping to attending "Preview" next week =( hopefully I can gain acceptance by March so that I can attend "Freshman Preview". FSU and UNF are my top choices but I kinda like FSU since there's so much opportunity being at a top state university.

Your ACT does not meet the minimun requirements for FSU. Your only chance is the CARE program. You will not receive a regular admit without a boost in your ACT scores. Good Luck.

Thank You sunnyflorida! Not wanting to sound rude or anything but my scores are one of the main reasons why I applied for the CARE program. I knew I would recieve a denial back in Dec. if I went under regular admission. I appreciate everyone's help and hopefully everything will fall through if not it's not going to be the "end of the world" for me lol.
Thank You & Go 'Noles!!!!

CARE Programs requirements are to have at least a 19 on the ACT-this is the reason why students apply, because CARE and FSU Admissions work together for those applicants. And, for the put-down for being a lawyer, are you implying that every lawyer has had stellar stats coming out of high school, because if so-that is a lie, even law students make low grades and they still receives that JD. Besides, CARE prep students so they can learn how to learn on their own and manage their time. UF has similar programs. We cannot tell someone what they cannot do b/c that makes them prove us wrong. Just being real...

your comments, while intended to be helpful ( Ill give you the benefit of doubt), are simply wrong.

SAT and gpa scores in hs are not a barometer of determining if someone can be a lawyer. While I am not a lawyer, i know many who are. None have ever told me that a law school application asks for hs stats. Students can become above average students in college after not having the strongest academic profile in hs.

Your attitude is quite cavalier and cold. You know nothing of gjoseph, where he is from, what his hs provides in terms of resources and yet you are willing to tell him today at the age of 17-18, he should give up. Clearly you are bitter about the CARE program and what its mission represents.

You should look up and study the words compassion and empathy. Both are attributes of someone who has a high level of emotional intelligence EQ ( a gauge of success). You lack both.

I'll echo what nycollegedad has already said.

Many of the most successful in society struggled with academic work at one time or another. They know first hand what effort it takes to succeed and the bitter taste of failure. These folks frequently make the best presidents, professors, teachers, managers, researchers, husbands and wives, mothers and fathers. They do not have an entitlement mentality or outlook and appreciate every good thing they realize. They stay in and get the job done when others become fearful and run.

You stay at it, gjoseph. You're doing the right thing.

Thank You everyone for your support!! As for you YaleOneThree I do not appreciate your juvenile statement. Basically, I feel as if you were belittling me and making me feel like a complete idiot. Just as nycollegedad and others have stated you know nothing of me! Test scores aren't a measure of future success, my mom's friend started out at the local CC, attended FSU and then went to UF for law school. Basically, from your statement I feel that you're implying if you have low test scores then you should not follow your dreams and not achieve success. I hope that your condescending attitudes haven't been posted across the board to users with similar stats as me. I wish YOU success with your future and I hope that YOU can learn to treat people with dignity and respect because Karma can be a witch with a "b" =)

Be diligent gjjosph. Show the CARE program that YOU WILL MAKE IT in thier program. Visit them, walk up to there offices at the FSU campus and promise they will not go wrong if they select you. When you make that promise, look them in the eye "face to face" and be as sincere as you can. Get them the TAX RETURNS when you visit them. If you do this, I think you will gain admission. If you visit, you are more than just a number, you are now a REAL PERSON. I will pray for your acceptance. Drive there no matter how far it is. Id you really want to be a Nole.....show them.

I understand what you’re going through with wanting to go to FSU. Just stay in there and don’t give up! Do ANYTHING you can and prepare for the worst but hope for the best!
