Waiting for COSMOS 2011!

Does anyone know when COSMOS program results are due to come out?
Around what date did admitted students get the news last year?

Does anyone want to share what clusters they applied to and what their stats are?

Thanks! :)

i applied to cosmos at davis
my first choice was biomedical sciences and i also put down physics in electro optics and introduction to engineering mechanics as my other choices

how many people do they usually take for each cluster??

Results come out in May.

I applied to UCSD in Bioengineering, Molecular Bio, and Comp Sci in that order.

@dysfunction Around 20-40, I think.

I applied to UC Irvine in The World of Molecules: The Heart of Chemistry and Astronomy&Astrophysics. I probably should have applied to a third one but, eh, I was too lazy to write another little essay blurb.

the COSMOS director emailed me back and told me that results will come out may 1st, but that there will be a small possibility that they will come out on april 28th or 29th

this program has the LONGEST wait time of any i’ve applied to this year
:|

@icenotmice: Yeah, I applied to three but really was not interested in the third at all, and I think that showed in my little essay. I probably should’ve just applied to two. If I only get into my third choice, I probably won’t accept the spot.

@dysfunction: Thanks for confirming! I was looking at threads from last year and I saw that people got notifications as early as April 24th. I guess they’re a little slower this year, but they do have a lot of applicants so I’ll just have to be more patient.

Hey people, I applied to UC Davis in Computer Security, Privacy, & Cybervillany, do you guys think it will be super hard to get into this cluster? Also did you guys application status go away? Mines used to say applied now its just gone! lol

I’m just copying my post from the other COSMOS thread:
Got accepted by e-mail to my first-choice cluster. Anyone else get accepted to Bioengineering at UCSD?

Hi! I applied to COSMOS at uc davis too. this wait is soooo long! i wish theyd post sooner than may 1. I applied to Biomedical Sciences but I only have a slim chance of getting in since I only applied to one cluster. Anybody got any tips for whether or not ill make it?

@pwiltzuc: The bio clusters are generally the most competitive at Davis according to stats I just saw on other threads, but this year might be different. I don’t think the computer security cluster will be as competitive as the biotech or biomed ones, but I could be wrong. In any case, good luck with your first choice!

@karaokemachine: Congrats! I didn’t know results for different campuses came out separately, especially this early. Hopefully, it’s a sign that Davis will come through soon.

@sgrewal: I have a few friends who only applied to one or two clusters as well. Especially in the biomed cluster, which I applied to as well, I bet those essays will have some pretty big weight on the decisions. When everyone has a 4.0 and great science ECs and recs, what else could they use? I wish I’d spent more time on my essays haha.

Thanks geeek! Which campus and which clusters did you apply too

No problem!
I applied to Biomedical Sciences as my first choice, and it’s really the only one I’m actually interested in, but I also put down Introduction to Engineering Mechanics and Computers in Biophysics & Robots as alternate choices. If I don’t get into my first choice, I don’t think I’ll attend for the others, so I’m hoping I do get into Biomed. Fingers crossed!

ohhh ok!I hope we both get into our first choice! Hey i was wondering,i looked at my application status online. it doesnt say applied anymore, its just blank! Is yours blank also?

If you mean the “Application Status” tab that you can click on when you log in, it’s not blank for me.
Mine shows each application requirement (application fee, transcript, confirmation page, financial aid, teacher recs) and the status of each one. Mine shows that everything was received. I’m not quite sure if we’re looking at the same places though.

Yes thats the page, but it used to say "applied"on the application status, that is gone now. The other things are still there like the transcript and application fee.

Hmmm, I don’t have that either, so I’m assuming it’s normal!

I got an email this morning that I was accepted! I got into Bright Ideas: Light at Work at UCSD :)

Nice! jackicombs, i wonder will UCD send their’s soon! What were your stats like? if u dont mind sharing?

4.0 unweighted. Nothing outstanding, I had ASB and MUN… I was really surprised I got in. My essays weren’t exceptional- I didn’t spend a lot of time on them but I had really good teacher recommendations.

Blahh, waitlisted at UCSD. sadfaceeeeeee.
My clusters were:

 1. Molecular Biology Revolution
 2. Bioengineering/Mechanical Engineering: The Amazing Red Blood Cells
 3. Living Oceans & Global Climate Change

3.8ish UW and 4.2ish W.
EC’s were… ehh okayish.
:(
