Waiting for Godot ..... Early Decision

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to listen to my parents’ nagging and have my RD applications ready to go.

OK, so I edited it a bit. It works better for our purposes this way. :)

HighlandMom, the only reason why I can laugh at your letter-in-transit-for-eons story is because D1’s ED school does electronic notification. :)

YEEEESSSSSSS!!!

Thank you thank you thank you for being the best supporters!

Now it’s my turn to cheer you on. I’m thinking extra positive thoughts for all of you.

c4t: Congratulations to you and your son!!! I’ve been thinking about you this afternoon and I was so happy to see your news. Enjoy this moment.

College4three:

Mazel Tov & congratulations!!

What?! No specifics?! Where, what, why, how??

Let’s hope that you set the precedent for rolling good news for all of us on this thread…

The Prayer of Serenity was composed by the Protestant theologian, Reinhold Neibuhr–considered one of the greatest theologians of all time. He had great influence in all the academies–from the Ivy divinity schools all the way down to religion courses in the US News’ second tier schools that our little Einsteins will never attend. One of the greatest, and he never earned a PhD. Imagine that! If you want your child to pray his prayer, that’s good. You may also have them read Niebuhr’s “The Irony of American History” before their matriculation into the fine schools to which they have applied.

^^ huh??^^

CONGRATS to C43 and your family! Great news. Those deep breaths feel good now, I’m sure.

Gotta love how while Madame is lecturing us parents on how students can do great things at any college, she/he’s also cheering on students asking for their chances at Duke, Brown and other schools. And now I’m done feeding the ■■■■■.

my stomach’s starting to hurt  22 hours and counting.

college4three - CONGRATULATIONS!

My D found out today that decisions were mailed yesterday!!! Too bad we live so far away. She will probably get it on Saturday, maybe tomorrow if the USPS gods smile down upon us. She is freaking out (her words, and I concur).

Madame, this thread is about supporting other parents / kids in their ED schools, regardless where that school ranks. This is not about only top tier schools. Back off.

@mommyg: I know the stomach ache/nausea feeling all too well. I took a nap today just to stay sane. I am thinking good thoughts for you and sending all kinds of positive karma.

@chochipcookie: Columbia. How? Really let them know how he would be a part of their community.

I have a good feeling about the results we’re about to see coming in…I’m not just saying that either.

I think that what is unique to ED kids is that they really have this one choice that stands out above the rest and so they put all of their eggs in that basket. The anxiety gets ramped up beyond belief. It’s a different dynamic than when there are multiple schools that are equally appealing to a child. I know that sometimes financial aid affects the process too, but generally it’s a love at first sight thing. And for the record, we applied for and received fin aid. I have to run. Will be back tomorrow. Thank you thank you. You are the best group of people I’ve never met!

College4three:

Columbia?!? Fabulous, congratulations!

My H has a cousin from San Francisco, brilliant, private school, fluent in Japanese, turned down by Columbia, now attending UPenn.

Wow, good for your S, awesome!
Here’s hoping your good luck will rub off on the rest of us!

thank you college4three. and congrats to you. i hope that good feeling holds true!

congrats college4three and your son!!! based on all the rejections over on the Columbia board, he must be very special and excited!!!

The “irony” of American history, according to Reinhold Niebuhr, is that our nation became a world power and gained its enduring stature during the 19th century precisely because we were then not seeking to be a world power. The growth and expansion of the nation occurred as the country went about its business in almost complete isolation from the rest of the world. Standing near the middle of the century was America’s greatest and most humble president, Abraham Lincoln. It was the humility of a nation that brought about its greatness. Sadly, we now live in an altogether different time of college rankings and “get-a-headers”. We pray the serenity prayer without knowing the values of the one to which it is attributed. Bill Gates–no college dgree. British Prime Minister John Major–no college. German Chancellor Angela Merkel–daughter of a pastor. Former ABC news anchor Peter Jennings–high school dropout. NBC news anchor Brian Williams–no college degree. The very best are the very least. The Hebrew Bible at Ecclesiastes 12:1 and 12:12-13 is a “must read”, as is the kitchen worker, Brother Lawrence.
