Does the waiting list at McGill work the same as those universities in the United States? Has anyone managed to get moved off of it? And now that I'm on the waiting list are my chances for a basic scholarship basically shot?

I think I'm on the waiting list because my application was completed only recently--I logged onto Minerva to find that my school hadn't sent my second semester transcript. I'm waiting and my classmates (with poorer "numbers") have acceptances.

what are your numbers>?

wGPA: 4.980 (2nd/315, competitive public suburban school)
SAT: 800 CR, 790 M, 780 W
SAT II: 800 Amer Hist, 760 Math lvl 2, 800 Literature
AP: Euro 5, Amer Hist 5, Calc BC 4 (AB sub 5), English, US Gov't, Physics B

Okay, now McGill has accepted me. That has to be the shortest time that anyone has ever spent on the waitlist. Does anyone know more about how they assign basic scholarships? Does everyone who's going to get one essentially have notification already?

Congratulations on your acceptance! Your #s were definitely good enough and (unless you failed to inform the school of the deadline) it's not really your fault that your school was late in sending in the papers.

I know that they assigned most of the "major" scholarships, so they might have assigned the "basic" too. For this question, since it's so important, it's better to rely on the counsel of the scholarship office rather than those who might not be so certain. Their contact info (and other information about scholarships) is available here: http://www.mcgill.ca/scholarships/contact/.

Btw, I just saw this little note on the information for Entrance scholarships:

"If you apply after the deadlines below you will not be considered for a scholarship, even if you have have been granted permission to submit a late admission application. There are no exceptions to this rule. "

The deadlines were March 5th, February 5th, and January 20th, depending on where you were applying from.

I'd still check though, just in case...
