I didn’t respond to the email and I wrote a letter of continued interest. I didn’t send in any supplementary materials though.

“Tell me which parents would like to see their kids cried for no hopes game?”

Cornellmom2014…what makes you think your daughter is the only kid going through this strenous process?Also from a parent’s perspective,why do you think you are the only one having to see a child’s disappointment and tears.Every high aiming kid goes through this pain of rejection,and so do their parents go through the heartbreak of seeing their kid’s agony.I hope you realize you aren’t the only good parent out there.Going around bashing the college or stating that the kids who got accepted because they were “lucky” shows real bad sportsmanship.Everyone who gets in,DESERVES to be it Georgetown.On the other hand,agreed that lots of deserving kids don’t get in,but that is to be expected in any competitive process.
Within a few months,this whole agonizing process will just be a distant memory and kids are happy wherever they land up at.But every kid has to go through this harrowing time,this is the first serious life lesson and helps in growing up.So please do your daughter a favor and stop making her feel victimized,you are doing her a huge disfavor by your attitude.

I do not said " only one". Read my words carefully.

Everybody has his ( her) opinion or attitude. You have yours and I have mine. As I said “D is happy now”. Thank you and thanks " do your daughter a favor ".

Let us see official GT statistics data in within next two weeks online. If I did not cited wrong data, this year GT accepted rate is around 15% of about 20, 000 applicants. Then, accepted waiting list numbers could be…" victimized,", " you are doing a huge disfavor by your attitude."…Learning lesson or not is upon to…

I am not strong enough to train my D grow up through these processes.

That is very good for " grow up" with " denied" letters, I am out this " DESERVES". Just be patient to wait that moment though.

I respectfully submitted,

Anyone know what this year’s acceptance rate was for Georgetown?Don’t seem to be finding it anywhere,most of the other big schools have already published their numbers.

The acceptance rate hit an “all-time low” of 16.5% this year.
GU’s Admissions Rate Hits Record Low - News - The Hoya"

"…
Georgetown’s acceptance rate dropped slightly to reach an all-time low of 16.5 percent this admissions cycle, after a year in which a record number of applications were received.
Of the 20,111 total applicants to the Class of 2016, 3,316 were accepted. Last year, 3,468 of 19,275 applicants were admitted, marking an 18 percent acceptance rate.
According to Dean of Undergraduate Admissions Charles Deacon, the lower admit rate means that the university was able to be even more selective.
“By all measures, the quality and diversity of this year’s incoming freshman class is higher than in the past,” Deacon said.
This year, the admitted pool also saw a 3 percent increase in the number of minority students.
According to Deacon, 10 percent of admitted students are African American, 11 percent are Hispanic or Latino, 15 percent are Asian American and 1.5 percent are Native American.
He added that the number of multiracial students applying and being accepted to Georgetown has also increased.
In keeping with previous years, the College was the most selective of the four schools, with a 15.8 percent acceptance rate, trailed by the McDonough School of Business, the Walsh School of Foreign Service and the School of Nursing and Health Studies, with acceptance rates of 16.8 percent, 17.8 percent and 17.9 percent respectively. …"

As the parent of a current freshman at Georgetown we were part of the over enrollment class admitted last year. Since last year’s yield was a bit higher than desired, I believe that was part of the reason that the admitted number of students for the class of 2016 was a bit lower this year. The class size announced at Convocation last year was 1624 and the preferred class size is in the 1550 - 1580 range due to housing capacity and DC limitations. I am afraid that if GU joins the common app process that the admit rate would drop from the mid teens to the low teens. It seems as though it just gets harder every year. Good luck to everyone on the wait list whether you become a Hoya or you enroll at another college.

I was just wondering how GU would notify international students who are admitted because of the time difference…wouldn’t it be a little difficult to call at a reasonable time for the student at the admissions office? (i’m not saying that i’m expecting to get a call, this is just a thought that’s been bugging me)

@yummigummi
Just call the admissions office and tell them they can call you anytime…then sleep with the phone taped to your head. Ha ha…I’m just kidding…trying to lighten the mood a little. Good luck getting in and all the best to you.

has anyone heard? and if not, do you guys think that means they’re not taking anyone off?

It’s still early in the week so i don’t think they’ve notified anyone yet I’m really hoping that Georgetown made sure that they admitted fewer students this year than last year so that they can take some students off the waitlist

ahh I’m so so nervous :(

Just got the phone call from my admissions representative today but unfortunately will not be attending due to Vanderbilt’s much more generous financial aid offer. I’m bummed out about it, but it sounds like they’ll be taking people from the wait list this year so good luck to everyone!

@baobabz

Around what time did they call you? And did you send in extra materials or anything? I’m so worried…I love Georgetown, but I’m from California and am worried that they won’t accept anyone from here due to the high number of applicants from the west coast. Where are you from?

I got a phone call at around 3pm. I did send in some extra materials, but nothing too special. Best of luck to you! I’m from Georgia.

omg the calls are starting! i’m so nervous!! this is distracting me from my finals congrats to baobabz btw. I’m sure you’ll have a great time at Vanderbilt. Good luck to everyone still waiting

baobabz - did they tell you the fin. aid right away in the phone call or did they send a separate email/letter?

Yeah congratulations baobabz! Oh man I can’t concentrate on my AP exams haha. I hope I get a call!

I think financial aid is usually emailed.

Baobabz:
What school within Gtown did you apply to?

@mhmm: the admissions rep actually gave me the financial aid offer over the phone
@jackerr: I applied to the faculty of languages and linguistics in georgetown college

thanks everyone!

The waitlist thread from 2010 shows that waitlisted students are usually accepted from the College first, then MSB, and finally NHS.

Congrats baobabz! And thanks for keeping all of us posted Good luck at Vandy!

@skateme: What about SFS?
