Thanks a lot! This is definitely my best birthday ever!

@Lutherjw,

I was recently accepted off the waitlist for Pratt. I am not an international.

And congratulations mathematicism!

Mathematicism - congrats! I’ve followed some of your posts and know you were applying to many of the same schools as my S (who’s also ending up at Duke (Pratt) ). Again – congrats! Duke is an amazing school!

@psychmama

Thank you! I never knew I was being stalked. (jk). Congrats to your son too! =)

don’t worry I’m a harmless “stalker”. Congrats again.

:D
Party at mathematicism’s house! hahaha =] congratulations, my friend!

Just got a phone call today from my admissions rep… ACCEPTED!!!
Trinity, physics major. Ohhh goodness, should I forsake Notre Dame?

@LondonGentlemen: Congratulations!!! That’s so exciting:)

Congrats! Last month (April), South Bend had 4 days where it reached at least 70 degrees and 17 days where it was in the 30s. Durham had 25 days where it reached at least 70 degrees and 3 days where the low was in the 30s. Not that weather is everything, but being in Chicago has made my depressed! This April has been TERRRIBLE. South Bend as a city independent of the weather is also a bit depressing (more than Durham due to its isolation). But seriously, visit and just go where you think you can see yourself more. Both are great schools. Duke may be a bit more “prestigious” but prestige isn’t everything and Notre Dame offers a great experience, unless your #1 priority is to have females live in your dorm (then Notre Dame is not such a great choice…). Also note that when you visit Duke, students won’t be there anymore so the atmosphere is a lot different and not indicative of what it would be like during the school year.

Since I’m assuming you live in London, 70 F = 21 C, 30 F = -1 C, 39 F = 3.9 C. Yeah, it was a cold April.

@LondonGentleman: Congrats! Tough choice, Duke vs. Notre Dame? I’m went ahead with Notre Dame as well and am waiting/hoping to hear from Duke. If the call comes, I’ll face the same dilemma… a good problem I suppose.

To say today has been the best day of my life would be an understatement.

To start things off, at school, we held a fundraiser that I have been planning/organizing for the past few months. Called the “Carnival Against Cancer”, this was a “field day” type event that raised money for a fellow student with leukemia. It was a great success - after counting up the money, we raised just over $1600 to benefit her family! And that’s not counting any concessions we sold at the actual event. It was amazing to see something I’ve been planning come to fruition and be so successful.

Then, when I got home, I saw that I had an e-mail from my Duke admissions counselor with the subject line: “Great news about your application from Duke!” If you can’t guess, I got admitted from the waitlist! I’m beyond ecstatic!

I’m in Trinity, by the way. I’m from NC.

Hi
Those of you who made it off the waitlist, did you make any phone calls and what steps did you take?. I sent a letter of interest to my regional rep

I sent a letter, two additional recs, and a school newspaper I created as part of my graduation project. I called the admissions office once just to see if they were going to be using the waitlist this year, but they wouldn’t tell me anything.

got accepted off the waitlist (Pratt Engineering)!

I just an additional essay just about my personality (didn’t talk about Duke except one line).

Thanks for the congratulations everyone!

Hahahaha, I know my username is misleading, but I live in Georgia. London Gentleman is the name of one of Brian Fantana’s colognes in the movie Anchorman, one of my favorites

I plan on visiting next week since they need my decision by next Saturday. Are you sure students won’t be there? Also, I visited Notre Dame two weeks ago so it’ll be easy for me to compare.

No phone calls for me. I just sent a letter expressing my desire to attend Duke accompanied by a list of my pursuits/awards over the past few months. I also included a brief essay on a fundraiser that I operated for Haiti which I connected to my commonapp essay and my desire to become a doctor. I also had my headmaster mail a recommendation to the admissions office. I did this for all of my waitlist schools.

Congratulations brownman23!
Congratulations lutherjw! Sounds like some good karma caught up with you haha :)

Ah, makes sense!

Yes, the very last final exam is tomorrow and most students are already done and have left. Even if you wanted to stay after exams (I don’t know why you would though), you are kicked out of the dorms on Monday at noon (if you’re not a graduating senior). Commencement is not until next weekend so there could theoretically be some seniors around, but a lot of people go to Myrtle Beach or somewhere else for the week and then come back. There’s no point in staying on campus since there’s nothing going on leading up to graduation after final exams are done. So, yeah, the campus will be pretty dead unfortunately. But it’s still beautiful! So, assuming Notre Dame was still in session two weeks ago, it’s not an apples-to-apples comparison. Just imagine the campus bustling with people as best you can!

Does anyone know the number of people that remain on the Duke waiting list?
The number of spots that are open for Class of 2015? Are there separate waiting lists for Trinity and Pratt?

^ The only thing I know for sure is that there are separate waiting lists for Trinity and Pratt.

I was just wondering if i need to confirm whether my regional rep has got the the letter of interest that i had emailed on like the 1st of may ?Though i did get an automated message that she isnt in her office and will be back on 2nd may.
thanks :)

^ That’s what I did. Call her if you don’t know for sure that she got it.
