Waitlist 2015 expectations?

Hi, child was off the Duke waitlist last week. We did not do any follow up and even accepted waitlist status 2 weeks after decisions came out. Was probably one of the greatest phone calls ever! Good luck to all!

Justame, Congrats!

Was your child accepted to Trinity or Pratt?

Thanks.

Justame,
Firstly congrats.
Secondly on which day did you get the decision?

This week I know of more than a few kids at one of our local private schools getting pulled off the waitlist.

Don’t know what this says about Duke “selectivity” this year . . .

Kelly - A lot depends on how the school planned for yields this year. With the record number of applicants everywhere, schools really took a chance if they planned for a low yield (and accepted more students) and then got too many kids accepting. Duke may have been conservative and anticipated a higher yield (accepting fewer students), figuring they could go to the wait list to end up with their target class size rather than over enrolling and having to figure out how they are going to accommodate the extra students. I don’t think the wait listed students were less qualified than those accepted, it is purely numbers. If the applicant’s qualifications did not meet the standard they were rejected - not waitlisted.
As you know with the top schools it is really a roll of the dice whether you get in or not. My S’s friend’s first choice was Duke but did not get in and will settle for an ivy instead. We’ll see when the stats for the freshman class come out whether the selectivity has gone down. Personally I think the number of qualified applicants has gone up.

the school usually errs on the conservative side since they don’t want to over-crowd east campus. That would be a nightmare

Are people still being accepted off the wait list? Does anyone know how many openings there are/were in Pratt?

Does anyone know the last time anyone got a call or an email? Thanks.

I think its more or less over i called them up they said if you havent heard from us yet the chances are very slim and as far as i remember the last time was about 2 if not 3 weeks back

asfand18 thank you for the information. Did you call them today?

I guess then an email will be coming soon to let kids know :(

Yup i called and yea they shud be emailing kids soon. What are your other choices?

I meant called today

They need to hurry up and put us out of our misery already.

I completely agree with you wulfran. I think they have stopped taking kids for the last two weeks and its wrong to give us false hope. They should release all waitlist decisions on the same date like northwestern stanford harvard did. anyway im off to johns hopkins which i am pretty content with where are you off to?

Just got the email that they’re not accepting anyone else off the waitlist… peace out, Duke

Does Duke have an extended waitlist for a few or the email was for all…closed. I ask what the email reads becauses S has a long day and won’t be reading this until tonite. Good luck to all!

I’m not sure if there’s an extended waitlist, sorry
The e-mail read:

And so on and so forth, just like a typical rejection letter.

Does anyone think they are on an extended wait list, my son still has not gotten the email telling him that the wait list is closed. Has Duke made any official statements on their web site? Because I can’t find it

tigershockeylax - same for my S. Can’t seem to find out anymore about what this means.

did u check in the junk? i got it in the junk mail
