Hi everyone! I had not seen any recent posts in this forum regarding waitlist decisions for the class of 2020. So, as a waitlisted student, I was wondering if anyone had heard from Amherst yet or what their general thoughts and feelings were. It seems that decisions traditionally do not come out until after May 1st, but I thought I might as well put this out there. Good luck in advance to anyone in the same boat as me!
Hey, I was waitlisted when I applied a few years ago. Here are some tips to get in.
- Write a LOCI--letter of continued interest--expressing your continued interest in Amherst. Use it to update the college on any recent achievements (competitions, awards, etc) and to say that if you were to be accepted, you would attend (this tells Amherst that you will positively affect their yield rate and greatly increases chances of admittance). Send the LOCI by email and by post to your regional admissions officer, who you can locate by calling the admissions office.
- Email your regional admissions officer reiterating your interest every two weeks to keep you on their mind.
- Send an additional letter of recommendation in.
- Optional: do something creative--one friend sent in a video of herself performing a slam poetry piece. Another sent a drawing of herself with a list of "ten things my application didn't show about me."
good luck!
@theviolethour Hey! I’ve been checking out a few waitlist threads and stuff, and you seem to be a frequent poster about it. Super helpful, out of curiosity, what did you indicate as your “major of interest”/what you intend to major in on the CommonApp?
Has anyone heard from Amherst yet? Being May 7th, I have to imagine that someone’s received a call from admissions by now. Alternatively, does anyone know any new information?
