Anyone here who has a link to regional counselors contacts?
There’s no reason your HS counselor cannot share this information with you. If not, call Amherst admissions ask them directly if they can provide it for you
Good luck!!
Hi! international student here was waitlisted by amherst too… I am a bit lost here though… I read on the college’s website that it is good practice to send a letter of continued interest but i do have some questions though…
- Should the letter be sent through regular mail or by email?
- To whom should the letter be addressed? (The dean of admissions or anyone else?)
and also does anyone have an idea of the odds for an international student to get off the waitlist (if it is even used this year)? i mean i know the odds to get off of a waitlist are extremely slim for anyone but is it harder for an international student?
Hey all,
I got in off the waitlist two years ago. At minimum, send an email to your regional counselor (or just admissions if you can’t find that info) AND a written letter to the dean of admissions. I also sent in an additional letter of recommendation. They want confirmation that if they accept you, you will go to Amherst (thus upping their yield rate). Good luck!
I called and they told me to just go ahead and e-mail the admissions office, supposedly there aren’t any regional counselors. Hey @theviolethour what do you think of getting an alum to write a recommendation for you?
Has anyone heard anything yet?
Not yet … The Waitlist FAQ says they’ll begin their consideration some time after May 8, but I’m starting to get anxious as people are getting off the waitlists at different schools. Do you think they will start contacting people this weekend?
we would hope but it is a stretch unless they substituted us for persons who they really want. For example, they want a hispanic but the one(s) they admitted chose somewhere else so they already had a line up of the one or two hispanics on the list they’d call without a doubt. If that is how it works I hope no one in my demography/scores/etc enroll lol jokes. But I really hope to get off the waitlist.
It looks like the results came out today for transfer applicants. I think that might’ve been why they said they would start looking at waitlisted students after May 8. Let’s hope they’ll have the first wave sometime next week, and good luck everyone!!!
@theviolotehour what did you write about in your letter?
i’m curious as to why this thread is so slow…dead even… oh well. good luck to everyone!
Hey… are all waitlisted applicants notified at the same time ?
@rosbo3 I think not. At least, if Amherst does its wait list like most other top colleges. It’s generally a rolling process that he a deadline. E.g. after July 1 no more are accepted off the waitlist. I recon that in a few days or a week at most people should start getting emails/calls.
My son was wait listed and got a call from admissions Wednesday 5/6. He originally had till today to let them know his answer but we got an extension till tomorrow because we had not received all the financial information we needed. Now he just has to make his decision. Fingers crossed for Amherst! Such an amazing school.
Good luck to everyone!
Hello CasualLaugh. Congrats on your son’s waitlist offer! Do you get the impression that financial aid is similar to what you would have anticipated if he were accepted RD? Between what schools is your son making a choice?
@schom1234 Yes, I believe financial aid is similar to RD. We will have another child in college the following year so the extra information we requested was estimated cost when our family has two in college as it changes the financial picture for my son in years 2 thru 4.
My son got into great schools and had decided to go to Chapel Hill (in state, honors college and direct admit into the business school there). Current choice is between Amherst and Chapel Hill. They are both great schools but very different from each other.
tough to make an apples-to-apples comparison between those schools, I can see why it’s taking a lot of soul-searching. UNC has a heck of a business school, and direct admit would set him up nicely. Good luck!
Hi all,
I am an international student from China. I am waitlisted and really hope to get off the list! I have been attentively reading info in this website related to Amherst Waitlist 2019, but recently I found no updates. Does anyone hear from Amherst recently? If I am an international student, will I also be informed by phone calls? Thanks!
And Do you think they’ve already made all offers they plan on making?
@BH2008hj it’s been pretty silent from Amherst on my end. I’m pretty sure they’ve made offers but this thread is dead so no one posts here. I’ve heard naught fromhem but will post if they contact me.
Persons are generally emailed to set up a call and then asked if they are still interested before an offer is extended w/ or w/o aid.
