I have been waitlisted and I am really sad about it I went to the DivOH weekend and I thought I had a really strong application (in a way I still think my application is very strong), but apparently Amherst didn’t think I was the right “fit” enough. I also think it has to do with the fact that I am international.

But I am determined to still try and hopefully get off the waitlist. Do you guys/amherst students (espeically those who got off the waitlist) have any suggestions? Any points specifically? I know that I really just have to show Amherst that it is my #1 choice, but there are certain ways to approach it.

I, too, have been waitlisted. I think it would be great if all the waitlist-ees post here and the 'insiders' who gave us the sending dates could somehow get intel on the number of waitlistees come May 1st...

Personally, I can't wait to present my resume to the Sabrina Society :)

I am waitlisted and I haven't received anything except e-mail. I know international mail is slow so... are there any other waitlisted internationals?

I'm on the wait list too! Amherst is the only one of my reach schools to give me anything other than a rejection, so I am really hoping for this!

What I mean by "drop off" is that they will choose not to be on the waitlist because they were accepted somewhere else. People continuously tell the admissions people whether or not they want to stay on the waitlist through May 1st and I was just wondering if maybe about half of all waitlisted people will remain on the waitlist. Sorry for the confusion :)!

they overenrolled by about 30 kids last year, so i would imagine that they were more cautious this year. so it's very possible that they will be returning to the waitlist this year, although it really depends on the yield which is obviously unpredictable.

The FAQ sheet they sent said that they estimated 900 people would stay on the list. I'm assuming that means they put more than that amount on it.

Hi,
My D is waitlisted too. She is an international.
We still have not received anything other than email.
Has any international received the letter yet?

Hi! I'm domestic and waitlisted (DivOH, too, tealover), but I'm pretty sure I'm choosing to remove myself from the waitlist. I was accepted to a few other superb institutions (i.e. Northwestern), so I don't think I'll put in at Amherst.

another question: for those of you who did get waitlisted, didn't it say in the letter that there are like 900 people on the waitlist? so it's like 25/900 chance????

it's different for everyone.
they aren't gonna take like 3 waitlist kids from one school.
so it depends if you are at the top of your local pile.

Hey guys. Good news for you waitlistees, kinda sad for me. I won't be attending Amherst this fall. Financial aid just didn't come through for me... not even close. And I've been told that my appeal will most likely not result in any change.
