she’s going Colgate. Thing is, even though many of you have rejected MHC’s offer it doesn’t necessarily opens up a spot for us. So long as they hit their target yield then there’s no reason for them to start using the wait list. Of course I do hope that it isn’t the case and some of us might actually stand a chance.

hey guys. it sucks that just cos i am an international student, my chances are slimmer than everyone else’s.however, i dont think the financial aid thing will seriously reduce my chances.i’m sure if tey want you badly enough then they wont mind how much it costs.besides, the admissions office said the list isn’t ranked and that they will look at each application individually so i think this could work in our favour! oh well, either way, i just have to get out of this country and go to a good college.mt holyoke is my only shot!

Tro2009- from the Mount Holyoke web site :

“What does it mean that Mount Holyoke College is need-aware?
Need-aware, also known as need-sensitive, is a policy in which students’ financial resources are considered along with other traditional admission measures in making decisions. Mount Holyoke College employs this policy only for those students who fall at the margin of the admitted applicant pool.”

Waitlisted students fall in the margin of the applicant pool. Your need for financial aid will reduce your chances. This policy applies to everyone on the waitlist, not just internationals.

Anyone hear of MHC wait list become active yet? Lot of other colleges have been opening the spaces up.

yeah i havent heard anything from them. getting more anxious seeing smith and bryn mawr already started calling people up …

i got an e-mail form the admissions office and they said at the moment they arent taking people off the list and they are not sure if they will this year so everyone should go with another plan.

yeah almost all the people in my school who were waitlisted have heard form their schools!this sucks!
MHC isn’t taking anyone!!

areej, did they send you an official email?

anybody heard from MHC yet? I emailed to adcom, updating them and showing my interest, my teacher even sent a recommendation letter. But got no reply… is that a bad sign? i’m worried… btw, i’m a RD applicant. Good luck everyone!!

I was also waitlisted!
I am NOT an international applicant and I AM applying for financial aid.
I sent them a letter of interest through email and I am planning to send them more information tomorrow, even if they say it is not necessary. How much will this help?

How will Mount Holyoke know that the accepted students declined their offer?
When someone pays their deposit, are they automatically informed? Or would the student have to write a letter directly to the Admissions Office?
Because otherwise, how would they know how many spaces there are left to “fill”?

xper: MHC will know that an accepted student declined an offer of admission in a number of ways: (1) the student can log on to the MHC website and “decline” the offer, (2) the student can write a snail mail letter, or (3) the student can send an e-mail letter (probably folllowed up by (2)).

I am sure you are anxious, but forget about it all until a week or so after May 1, the deadline for acceptees to respond. Until that deadline passes, it is unlikely that you will get any favorable waitlist news from MHC (unless a greater proportion than predicted of acceptees decline their MHC acceptances – highly unlikely).

Good luck. Enjoy the spring, develop senioritis, and get away from your computer.

@nomoreregret this was last year’s thread btw, the latest thread on waitlist is at

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/mount-holyoke-college/891130-waitlisted-t-t.html

more reliable update there.

@ xperfectionistx You can send more stuff, but I would recommend that you stay in touch with the person listed on your letter, and check with her FIRST, you wouldn’t want to swamp them, would you? Follow their advice.

Any college would know their enrollment numbers by MAY 1st or thereafter when everyone submits their deposit. I don’t think they have to WRITE an official letter, I mean, the adcoms just finished reading thousands of apps I doubt they have time to peruse heartfelt thanks-but-no-thanks.

Upon collection of deposits, they have to compare it with their yield (no. of admits EXPECTED to enroll), and if they don’t hit it, they’ll use their wait-list. Last year, I was on MHC’s wait list as you can see from the above ^^ unfortunately, they didn’t use the wait list last year, and a lot of talented women, along with ahem myself, were left heartbroken. BUT THAT WAS LAST YEAR.

This year, I will be keeping my fingers tightly crossed for you girls, for them to NEED the wait -list this time! Have faith !

PS: I would suggest we stick to the more updated wait-list thread so as not to confuse anyone, in dire need of uhm, updates?
