I was waitlisted at Brown and nearly everyone I know that applied to Brown was also waitlisted. What are the numbers that are waitlist? What are the chances of finally being accepted?

i was waitlisted last year and didnt get accepted. i wouldnt get your hopes up, i dont think that it is very likely anymore to get accepted off of the waitlist.

They would have to have a much lower yield than predicted in order to move to the waitlist, unfortunately.

It's too early to tell, I mean, some years like last year they took zero. But, other years they have taken quite a number. I wouldn't be optimistic necessarily but if you are still interested in Brown stay on the WL and see what happens

but don't you think that since last year a lot of colleges under-predicted their yields, they will overcorrect this year by over-predicting, and thus falling back onto waitlists?? I want to get into Brown super badly...what can I do to increase my chances?

funfetti: That was my take by looking at the Common Data Set for a number of schools last year compared to released acceptance numbers this year. I think many schools overenrolled last year so they are being cautious, but what do I know. All we can do is wait.

I dont think that they will use the waitlist...even if they do, they will take like 5 at most. admissions is getting super competitive, and even if they took less freshman than they did last year, I dont think that they will be able to use the waitlist. Personally, I hate the waitlist. All it does it get your hopes up, and forces you to do even better in your courses second semester, get more recs, and earn some awards. I am currently on the Middlebury waitlist for transfer students (i didn't even know that existed) and will stay on it, but I am not hopeful, not that I was hopeful that I would get into Middlebury anyway, considering last year their 3% transfer acceptance rate...

fredmurtz...out of curiousity (though I am not at all doubting you), where did you get the stats that Brown took zero off the waitlist last year? Is there a source you can point me to? I have the waitlist stats for 2005-2006 (the year before), but not last year.

well, when i didnt get in, the letter said that they didn't take anyone

Aha, that explains it! I've seen data for the previous year but didn't know where to find it from this past year. I have a relative on the waitlist this year :D.
