Waitlist :( Chances?

@headingsouth
wow i’m very very surprised you didn’t get into BU.

i know how you feel. i was dead sure i was getting into nyu but i was waitlisted too :(

If it helps, I don’t think I’ll be accepting my admission to BU =P Bumps you up one spot =)

Surprised to hear that they took any off the wait list last year, given that

a) those on it reported here that BU told them it wasn’t going to the wait list, and
b) they over-enrolled to such an extent 300+ students that this year’s entering class target has been reduced http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/boston-university/1034266-smaller-freshman-class-2011-a.html

This seriously sucks. I got waitlisted at both BU and Lehigh and rejected from most of my top schools. Got into GWU, UConn, UMass, Northeastern and that’s it!! Anyways I thought that I was going to get accepted into BU- after all, I have a 2070 for SATs, 4.55 weighted GPA, Class Treasurer, track and cross country runner, etc. Seriously some people got in who were clearly less intelligent and less hard working then me. I hope I get in, though, because I love Boston and I want to study medicine- perfect for BU!

@HeadingSouth You seemed to be more than qualified. I actually have about the same score as you, just a tiny bit higher, and got in easily, although my application was little colorful. I think it is one of three things: you didn’t have enough extracurricular, something was missing in your essay, or, what I think most likely happened, you were overqualified. Schools like BU tend to put overqualified students on waitlist. I have a friends who got into Yale, Princeton, Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, Duke, and Yale who got waitlisted for Butler. I have a sister who got into those same school who got waitlisted for Northeastern. They probably just thought that someone with your scores would likely end up going to a higher level school.

@kcgrl1124 Reason you got rejected is either one of the three scenarios I mentioned above, or, which is more likely for you, cause you applied to Boston Medical. Boston Medical school is one of the best there is and the most competitive of any other colleges at BU. Its as hard to get into as Ivy and they usually almost require that you have some experience or background in medicine or medicinal science before coming.

To both, I am sorry you guys were waitlisted, best of luck with your other schools.

eerrhhgggg
