Waitlist letter tone?

How should this be done? What's the right approach to take-- formal, short, and to the point, or witty and metaphoric and active like a typical personal statement?

A sample of one, if it could also be given, would be hugely appreciated. Doesn't have to be from this year, either.

I’m taking a sort-of casual tone with mine. Keep it short, and make sure you sound moderately courteous… I’m guessing depending on the school, humor works. I’m not an expert, but I’d say you’d do best not to sound desperate, like “please admit me, I’ve been slitting my wrists ever since I got the waitlist letter” but just talk about how you’ve reflected and figured why School X is still your first choice.
Just my two cents…
actually, I’d really like some feedback on this too, would any one else like to advise us? XD

I could offer you to read mine and I could offer to read/revise yours.
