<p>How should this be done? What's the right approach to take-- formal, short, and to the point, or witty and metaphoric and active like a typical personal statement?</p>

<p>I’m taking a sort-of casual tone with mine. Keep it short, and make sure you sound moderately courteous… I’m guessing depending on the school, humor works. I’m not an expert, but I’d say you’d do best not to sound desperate, like “please admit me, I’ve been slitting my wrists ever since I got the waitlist letter” but just talk about how you’ve reflected and figured why School X is still your first choice.
