Waitlist Acceptance

I'm starting this to see if/when any of these forum members are accepted off the waiting list. I'm interested in knowing, though I'm sure it'll be awhile before Rice sorts through all the decisions from May 1st and sees what spots need filling.

Please post here.

"Like last year, the enrollment goal for the class is 720 freshmen...Based on previous yield rates — a measure of how many students accept the offer of admission— it is expected that 710 places in the freshman class will be filled before students are admitted from the waiting list, Browning said..." -- from article posted on another thread

probably doesn't mean much, but not too encouraging

got in off waitlist yesterday, wednesday may 10.

Omg, congrats! I'm still waiting. Are you going to accept for sure?

Heck yes. Rice '09 all the way.

D is also waiting to hear from Rice but I think she's getting used to the idea of UT Plan II.

Sreis,

What is your major? What interests did you check off on the waitlist?
Did you have to give them an answer (attend or not) on the spot? Did you get to see your financial aid before that?

As you can see, I am very anxious about Rice's waitlist.

wow, congratulations! I'm still waiting myself.

Got accepted off of the waitlist on wednesday, May 10. I am very excited, didn't think that my major would be underrepresented (Engineering). What is funny is that when they called, they said I showed interest in Rice and wanted to extend an admission offer to me. I didn't think it would help, but still sent in a letter with scholarships I won and how much I wanted to go to Rice.

I definately want to go, but it will depend of if the money works out. They gave me until May 19 to decide. Good luck guys!

I haven't decided on a major, and yeah you get your financial aid package afterward by fax, but I only have to decide by May 18! Doesn't matter because I am in there like swimwear man.

Their financial aid is awesome. Rice is 35k unaided per year, my EFC is 27k, aid brought it down to 17k. Thats 18k total award, completely unexpected. Jonhs Hopkins for me was 34k/yr in comparison. But anyway JoyJoy, I am sure it will work out.

I wrote a letter also, sounded like it helped (the woman acted like it was in front of her which is pretty cool). But anyway they claim to be really busy- I am sure they are still accepting waitlisted applicants. Best of luck to you guys.

sreis and JoyJoy, were you both under "priority waitlist?"

I was... how bout you?

sreis,
Thanks for the financial aid information. You finaid package is pretty encouraging. I am probably getting mine tommorrow (Mon by mail she said). Did you get any loans, or was it all grants?

I was also priority waitlist.

everyone is offered loans pretty much by default, they only defer payment anyway, but i did include them in the figure just because i did not look at the breakdown. grants now that i look at it is about 14k, but anyway you'll see it all when you get it-- wouldn't want to spoil your fun.

Thanks for answering my question. yes sreis, I was offered "priority waitlist" and still haven't heard....

snap you should be aight den

got in few days ago. priority waitlist. sent them a letter..got the call the next day =)

its cornell vs rice for me..gotta reply by next friday =/ i'm leaning toward cornell though..unless i get a nice fin aid package :) still on waitlist for stanford duke chicago..mit just got shot down the drain..not taking any waitlists..

good luck with your choices. that's a tough decision especially since you're still waiting to hear from more places.

sunkist, where did you decide to go?
