Waitlist UCF 2020

Yeah I applied for the Fall-Spring one because the summer is going to be fully online.

Has anyone got admission from UCF without asking for an expedited decision? I am waiting it out but I don’t know if that’s the best option for me. My stats are 1070 SAT, 4.2 weighted GPA, 21 dual enrollment credits, and all AP since Freshman Year.

I’ve seen some people on this forum get in just from rolling decisions for waitlist, so it is possible. I would suggest waiting if you can but don’t wait too long (like late May). Good luck!

my brother got a response from ucf today saying he was rejected without requesting an expedited decision but he is going to call and appeal it.

i think that if you can wait then wait but do not wait too long, especially nearing the may 31st date (i personally feel like they’ll become more tedious and picky when they have a few more spots available for their freshmen class).

i personally think your overall application is great, considering how determined you are. we have an sat score of a 10 point difference so i feel that you have a good chance of getting in!

when do you think would be a good time to request an expedited decision to avoid the committee becoming pickier? i’m not necessarily in a rush to hear back since i don’t have any other college i’m waiting to pick necessarily but i am nervous about what decision i might get.

i think after may 1st to may 8th (possibly may 15th) would be a great time range to request an expedited decision; however, please know that i personally think that the admissions committee will get pickier so i could be wrong and there may be more space available rather than only a few spaces. i am only saying that i think they’ll get pickier along the weeks due to the fact that so many people (especially aside from this forum) that have requested expedited decisions and there are people who have remained quiet/there are many views of this forum, hence why i think there are a few spaces available at this time but even fewer when it’s closer to may 31st. also, i hear more acceptances off the waitlist up until now.

however, if you can wait, i think most people are choosing to wait at this time. remember that the waitlist is a rolling acceptance/rejection so from this time up until may 31st, you could be accepted off the waitlist at anytime.

How many people got a decision rolling? (without expedite)

On the weighted GPA, here’s how UCF uses that for admission.

First of all, they only use the core classes required for graduation in Florida. So that means your elective classes don’t count at all. They don’t help you; they don’t hurt you.

UCF adds one bonus point for AP, IB and I believe dual enrollment, and 1/2 point for honors. That’s different from some places. For example, here in Miami our school system adds 2 points for AP/IB and 1 point for honors. So students from here end up having considerably lower weighted GPAs with UCF than our local schools claim they have.

are the gpas everybody here is posting the ucf recalculated gpas they have? i don’t actually know what mine is or how to figure it out. sorry if that sounds dumb

i think the gpas everyone has been posting on here are our school’s unweighted and weighted gpa (what we have right now in our senior year). not sure how to recalculate your gpa for the ucf recalculated gpa but all i know is that only your core classes (no electives) come into play when recalculating. i think there are some threads or other forums that talked about how to recalculate your gpa to see if your gpa meets the ucf standard though.

The thing I don’t know about UCF’s recalculation is whether they apply bonus points to ALL AP and Honors classes.

Our school system only awards bonus points only for grades of B or above, but I don’t know what UCF does.

I also think an applicant could call UCF Admissions and ask what their UCF-calculated GPA is.

If you had the actual UCF calculation, you would have something relevant to compare with available information.

i called ucf to ask about my gpa and turns out my recalculated gpa is a 3.15. i asked what my weighted was and they told me the recalculated gpa is already weighted technically under them. other than that, my high school weighted is a 4.3. really hoping i get in

is the 3.15 far off from you actual unweighted?

my unweighted in high school was a 3.2 last time i was told so not really. it’s kind of funny actually that it’s just a small difference

Um
4.3 - 3.15 = 1.15?

This is the issue both christineb and I have posted about just a few posts above.

UCF uses their own system of weighting GPA’s, considering only the core requirements for high school graduation for Florida public schools – English, math, science, social studies, foreign language. That’s it; nothing else.

If you took some courses that were Honors, AP, IB, DE, etc, but they are NOT core – those courses do not count for your UCF weighted GPA used for admission.

So in plain English
if a lot of your high grades were in non-core classes, your UCF weighted GPA is going to be somewhat lower than your school’s weighted GPA.

yeah, i’m not exactly sure what my high school unweighted gpa is at the moment. last i knew it was a 3.2 but a contrast, my raiseme profile says it would be closer to 3.6. so i’m not actually sure on what it is. my bad i might have worms in my brain

edit: i might have completely missed the point of what you were saying so tell me if so

No, I think you’re getting it, but it doesn’t matter what your school says, or what raiseme says.

What matters is what UCF says.

You can try to recalculate your GPA according to UCF criteria, but the much more accurate method would be to simply call Freshman Admissions and ask them.

And
if you get somebody friendly on the phone, talk to them a bit and ask them what they think your chances are. They’re nice people, and they’ll help you if they can.
The worst they can do is say they don’t know.

oh okay i get what you meant now.
when i called them they told me i have a 3.15 for ucf and that considerably, the people with higher gpas are going to be getting spots sooner than people with lower gpas. so i do have a lower chance but i’m hoping being top 20 of my class and having dual enrollment under my belt will help.
