Yeah, that’s what I was definitely thinking too. I actually had a talk with my dad who works at UCF not too long ago about it. He even said the University might be closed for a while until things start to cool down. However, I did take up the offer to email one of the leadership people on the Admissions Committee by the name of Elizabeth Costello asking how the waitlist status works because none of us have gotten a clear answer of what this means. So I’m hoping I get some type of information to report back here.
if we do not get a decision tomorrow, should we request an expedited decision? because housing is important and a huge concern for most of us so we all want to have the chance to choose our housing and to get a space.
That’s up to you, but I’d suggest waiting a little bit longer. April 25th is a good date I’d say because that gives them up to 10 days to roll out waitlisted admissions and won’t seem like you’re rushing.
Step 1 – acceptance as a student
Step 2 – you confirm your acceptance by paying your enrollment deposit ($200)
Step 3 – UCF confirms your acceptance and tells you that you are eligible to apply for housing. Can’t remember if that’s a link in the email, something off of MyUCF, or both
Step 4 – you apply for your preferred housing and pay the deposit ($250)
Step 5 – your housing application is approved.
All of that occurred very quickly – 3 days from start to finish for us. In this environment – with a lot of people applying at one time and staff working from home – it may take longer. But it will be the same for everybody.
Even if you initially apply for housing in one area, a previously approved student can “pull you in” to whatever they are approved for.
Actual housing selection (building, floor, etc) will not occur until later. My daughter is confirmed for Towers, but we have not done the actual selection yet.
@christineb It might be better to email housing and ask if there is still space. Not having housing would be a deal breaker for a lot of people.
@JimDadinmia - I don’t think that you can just pull into any housing- they have to have the same confirmed housing agreement ie:dorm. If that were true, you would have a lot of kids getting pulled into Towers and Neptune. You can “pull in” other people for the actual room assignment as long as they are in the same dorm.
This is such a crazy time and I’m sure waiting around for a decision is making it much more stressful- good luck to everyone.
That is NOT what we have been told. We have been told that you can “pull in” anybody, regardless of their initial choice.
Obviously they would have to agree to the same housing agreement. For example, Towers is a 3=term commitment @ $9,000. So the person being pulled in would have to agree to those terms. You couldn’t sign up for Libra and then transfer that 2-term commitment to Towers.
Neptune is different because a lot (maybe all) of Neptune is “living communities” of various types: honors, OOS, etc.
I also wonder how long it will take for them to get back to you if you request an expedited decision. Would it just take like a few days or would it take a week plus? Because I’d like to know so I don’t ask for it too late if I do end up doing that.
I just found this thread and I’m kind of relieved that there are other people in the same boat as me. I haven’t gotten off the waitlist either and I was wondering if I should put my deposit down for FIU now so i can have a spot just in case UCF doesn’t accept me, or if I should just wait until May 1st
what most of us are deciding to do is emailing them for an expedited decision (a decision that may quicken the process if you don’t see any changes to the waitlist these next few days). i would recommend to not rush them and wait a few days but don’t email them too late.
@christineb I would try to contact them tomorrow- if living on campus is something you must have and housing is full- then it would help to make the decision to move on to another school.
Was someone told there is such a thing as expedited decisions with waitlist??? Waitlist means that at that time there was not room. So typically until they don’t get numbers they need, they can’t let people in. I’ve only heard of expedited decision for deferred candidates. Maybe UCF is doing something new??
@arleinny - your spot is safe at FIU until the final deposit date- I assume May 1- if you are not concerned about housing then I would not worry. Keep in mind that UCF can notify you after May 1.
@JimDadinmia - you have to have a confirmed agreement for the dorm before room assignment. So only people assigned to the same dorm can “pull in” someone into their suite/apartment/room. D is on her 3rd housing agreement- she can’t “pull in” anyone who isn’t assigned to her dorm.
This is correct, and good advice. Don’t do anything with FIU until you need to, as long as you don’t need a dorm there.
Here’s our situation and what we were told. Our daughter has been accepted, has submitted her enrollment deposit, has been approved for dorm housing at the Towers, and has paid that deposit.
We had a very specific conversation with the housing office limited only to this topic - not some random misinterpreted comment.
We were told no problem, we could pull others in. We asked that very clearly and specifically because our daughter has several other friends here in Miami who are accepted to UCF, but are still deciding on which school to actually attend. They have not yet sent their enrollment deposit or housing application.
We were told that, at any time prior to or during room assignment later in the summer, she can “pull in” preferred roommates if they are confirmed for ANY UCF dorm housing.
It could be bad info, but that’s what we were told.
since you’re a parent, i would like to ask for some advice. should i look into an enrollment deposit for my second choice (unf) and pay it now? i am afraid if they won’t give a refund if i got accepted to ucf and my family cannot afford to waste too much money on an enrollment deposit (especially knowing that i also have to pay for a housing spot). just a question i wanted to ask because i know for sure that my parents would want a refund on the deposit from unf if i chose and got accepted to ucf.
I think your acceptance at UNF is safe until their deadline for student commitment. I am not familiar with UNF’s policies, but I believe UCF’s enrollment deposit is NON-refundable.
I suggest you check UNF’s website for that specific information, or call their admissions office and ask. It’s a perfectly legitimate and important question and you should get the answer from the source, not an anonymous poster on the Internet.
@Jimdadinmia That is very interesting about roommates- I hope it works out for your D and her friends. Typically Towers and Neptune get filled pretty quickly in the housing process, in the past, lots of kids have been denied, so I wonder how they would let people who apply later, in? What happens to the people who were originally assigned to Towers- they get kicked out?
It literally says on the roommate assignment page on the housing portal that you have to have the same agreement type (dorm assignment). I’ve heard of special exceptions, but it’s rare. Honesty, their explanation doesn’t make sense, but I would hold them to it!
We’ll see, I guess. With the covid-19 situation, I think the one girl she was thinking about rooming with is actually going to stay at home and go to FIU instead. So it all may be moot.
